Power Steering Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a skoda fabia 1.4 2000, After repairing a drivers window regulator unit and having a hoilday for a week (without the car) on return home found the power steering to be heavy. The power steering light was on but now off but steering is stilll heavy. Any ideas?

First check the flat metal strip fuses in the battery box lid for cracks......then it really needs a code reader to read the stored fault codes.....most common problem is the early Black plastic cased PAS sensor (look at the side of base of the steering column thro the drivers side wheel arch....no need to jack car etc)......later PAS sensors have a gold coloured smaller metal case. About a 10min job to remove the sensor from car and swap over.....but about 1hr to rewire as cable is one piece to under the washer bottle...behind passenger foglight!!! B)

P.S. new PAS sensor from Skoda Dealer is around £140ish as they are adding a surcharge of £36 ish for the return of your old sensor (must be in good nick..but dead).......as I have done two PAS sensor swaps in the past two months!!!! B)

I had similar problems and I checked the battery to earth strap first, I tighened both ends on the battery and the chassis or it may simply need a new battery, especially with winter approaching.

....and you can check the very handy thread in this section high lighting various issues with the electro hydraulic system.
