400k fabia mk1 sdi

Featured Replies

Bloody hell, thats alot of miles

Doesn't look at all like a 400k miler! Unless closer inspection says otherwise.

That must have been a really boring 400k!! The SDI is the worst engine in the world, and not actually that economic as you have to thrash the thing to get it anywhere (well the Mk4 Golf Match i had for about a month as a courtesy car did!).

Looks like the headlights could do with a wet sand or replacing but looks good nick otherwise and still has Skoda hubcaps!

The blokes on here who own them and people i`v spoken to swear by them. 60-80mpg, can trash it everywhere and while you only ever go moderately fast, it never drinks much fuel. Before I bought my 3rd car I was eyeing them up for a work car.

Matt

THE SDI engine is solid and reliable no turbos to go pop as for MPG on a recent trip to Bristol it worked out at aq fraction under 69mpg and that wasnt hanging about

Judging by this we'll be keeping ours a while longer

ours has only done 111k :D

There's a lot to be said for the 1.9 SDi. How many other engines are flexible enough for you to pull away from rest in 5th on tickover?

I did 135k with my first, then passed it on to No 1 daughter who took it to 210k. Then I did 173k with the second.

Overall 53mpg for the first, 54mpg for the second, that included a lot of learners and a lot of hills. Not a lot of power, but usable torque from about 600 revs to the red line.

Wonder how much it has cost in fuel for those 402k?

Rob.

I would say it has been a taxi with those miles. The Furby 1.9 SDi Classic was a popular choice for minicabbers in the north for quite some time due to it being almost bomb proof and sipping diesel.

Well, even at 50 mpg that would be 36,000 litres

Imagine using v-power rather than normal derv, that would have cost you an extra 360,000p or £3,6000 :o

Seriously though, old school, non turbo dervs just go on and on and on, the XUD was exactly the same.

Whilst I don't think the SDI would win any race, it is certainly a proven formula for a reliable engine. Low stress, no turbo etc. I considered a Gold SDI as my first car, but at the end I could not live without a/c or wind down windows in a modern car.

Those OM602 Merc diesel are the same.

Slightly on topic, My uncle bought a Mercedes 190D 2.5 non turbo diesel in 1986yr it had a full merc service history until 2002yr and it went in for it's oil and filter change every 6,000 miles until 2002yr

he kept it until 2005 but only did about 15k in the last 3yrs before he passed away but that car had a staggering 570,000miles on the clock(he was a travelling salesmen doing about 30-40k per year

it wasn't that economical according to my dad, doing about 40mpg

but my dad gave it to his brothers neighbour for free who is still running it today!(based in bristol and white, keep an eye out for it)

The non turbo's if well maintained should last forever

I know that every one who has actually owned one will disagree with you. The engine does exactly what its meant to do and regularly exceeds 70mpg.
