Too late to change spec..

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a 1.4tsi Octavia on order and the build week is 40. (week beginning 3rd October)

After much deliberation I decided to add the leather seats over the weekend, but apparently it is too late to change the spec. The dealer could not change it on the system, and he suggested I called Skoda direct.

Had a chat with the reasonably nice people at Skoda head office this morning, and made the point that the car was not actually being built for two weeks.. so why can't I change the spec?

If it was an engine change, or a move to DSG i would understand.. but this seems so straightforward.

Only option would be to add the seats and move to the back of the queue. (not that long admittedly, but I'd rather go withought the leather and make the £ saving) and get the car sooner.

Asked if they could add leather to the spec, and let me know when the build week would change to (letting me decide if the wait was worth it) but that cant be done either apparently. Once the leather is added, my week 40 option goes.

Does this sound about right? Anyone know any way around this mildly annoying situation?

Thanks.

Charlie

leave order as is

when you get the car book it in with seatsurgeons

they do a great job, to your specifications, and can work out cheaper than standard leather

Yup you're to close now for a change.

I think you can make changes upto 6 weeks before build, but you're just under that.

To be honest im shocked that the dealers told you to call skoda yourself that is extremely bad manured of them its their job to take your order and money give you the new car not tell you to go try SUK yourself.

I wanted to change my extras 8 weeks before build week so that was before it was even confirmed and they messed me around didn't call me back ref it etc I had to chase them and then to point where they said "I left it too late unless you don't want to see your car until the end of the year" at around 10 days before build date they got it changed in end after I called their bluff and said better give me a new delivery date then! When I called SUK to confirm they were not lying to me to then surprise me on delivery day to find out they said it been changed defiantly but said they must have contacted the factory directly from dealers as SUK couldn't touch it in last 2 or 3 weeks I think it was.

If it is what you want and you'd feel let down when you have the car by not having it id just wait that bit longer that's what I was going to do but to my surprise ... Also I would tell dealers to do their job properly you are the reason they are in business as the customer!

Two weeks may seem a long time but I'm guessing they don't carry un-needed components in stock at the factory.

As the production lines are planned many weeks in advance I can understand why it isn't possible to change your order.

Thans for replies all. They said that parts are ordered Just In Time, which I get.. but annoying. I only ordered the car 2 weeks ago, so just surprised at the speed of it all to be honest.

It would make sense if they could give me a build week IF I decided to change and wait for the leather, but they won't/can't.

Anyway.. I've already 'spent' the saving now on an apple mac.

"Lean Manufacturing" as championed by the likes of Toyota & Unipart, "Just enough, just in time", hence there comes a point where changes aren't possible. As others have said if you really want leather, then Seat Surgeons are a good port of call. Seen some of their work, and have to say it can look better than some "factory" leather!

Happened to me when I decided to add maxidot.

there is a car seat trimmer that is often recommended on here for fitting leather. Allegedly cheaper and better than OEM. Name fails me but no doubt someone will remember (seat surgeons?).
