My wild hours with a Fab vRS...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new here, been looking for a good Skoda forum for ages so I can share some of my enthusiasm for the marque.

Right, okay, where to start? In 2003 I joined the VW group for a placement. I was on to the company car insurance as I worked in product marketing at the time. In my role I got to drive all manor of VW group and competitor cars, and boy there were some nice one's! At last count I drove 5 different Audi RS6's, lots of allroads (love them!), 4 different S4's, a few TT's, many new A3's, some A6's, 2 A8's, a Leon Cupra TDi (wow and wow again) some Mercs, BMW's and Jags. They were all great in their own way, and i'd decided that the Cupra TDi was my fave group car until I was offered a certain little black bomb during my lunch break....

I was supposed to take the Black Fabia vRS back to the office once I had dropped someone off at the local dealer, but I happened to take a longer route back, purely by chance you understand... WHAT A CAR! As soon as I got in and adjusted the seat I had already started to giggle. Everything felt so right; the seats, pedals, dials, everything. I'm tall, but there was loads of headroom. The car was completely standard, with no extras (apart from the paint colour) and it felt just right. I still to this maintain that this was the most fun and sorted car I drove while I worked there, everything worked so well! The fact that it was the cheapest I drove was purely a bonus. The chassis was ideal, perfect combination of ride and handling, even though it gets ragged towards the edge (exciting if you ask me!) The engine pulled and pulled and thrived on revs, the gearbox and clutch action were ultra-slick, all the controls felt beautifully damped and the car just gelled so well.

Suffice to say, since that drive I have not been able to get that car off my mind; the drive was too memorable. On my wish list now is a new silver one (best colour for it IMO) with ESP and Cruise. I was tempted by Xenon's but they are quite dear. Heated seats would be nice though...

Cheers all,

o

Have you tried the Octavia RS , just as good ;) but bigger,

Steve

Welcome, o..

Nice to see you seem to prefer the Fabia vRS to the Leon cupra TDI ;)

Xenons are rather expensive :( On the other hand, if you ask nicely, you can get cruise retrofitted for not much more than the price list ;)

But yes, they are a fantastic car. Have you been in a remapped one? ;):D

Oh and if you like the thrill of revs, as Steve said, the octy's worth a look. Won't be quite so cheap to run, but does have a hoooge boot (if you need it) and can be had for rather a bargainous price (second hand). In fact, there's one chap selling a rather nice Octy RS 2nd hand right now

o......K

So what date have you decided to buy 1 ?

Steve

Cool post! Reminds me of that statistic someone posted that 70% of people who test drive the fabia Vrs buy one!

Good luck finding a car.

Btw its good that you liked the handling so much, did you find the cupra Tdi too stiffly sprung?

Wow, lots to be replying to there!

About that Boctavia vRS question......I would buy one but my dad had his brand new black magic one delivered 3 months back and I drive it all the time ;) Its nice, very nice, and i'd have one, its just that the Fab made more of an impressionb on me.

I deffo wanna try a remapped version, it'd be amazing with even more poke! What have you guys done to yours?

The Cupra TDI was amazing, and yes it was stiffly sprung, but it was as good as the Fab, no better, so logic states I should go for the cheaper, better looking and less obvious choice, e.g. a Fab! The Cupra was a different kind of the performance to the Fab though; it felt like there was a big 3.0 V6 under the bonnet rather than a blown four. The Fabia felt more racy, more revvy, if a bit slower... If the two cost the same i'd get the Leon, sorry chaps. As it stands, I don't think its worth

Here i am trying to sell my Octy and all everyone talks about is the Fabia vRS,i'm turning into a bitter and twisted diesel hater!!!!!

obviously i'm only joking!!!!!

Welcome to Briskoda, o.. Have you been set the task of selling coals to Newcastle by your bosses, or is that really how you feel about the Fabia vRS?!

Nah, no alterior motive, they are my ex bosses now, left nearly a year ago and I worked for Audi anyway.

I still want a fab, even though its getting towards the end of its life cycle..

o :)
