Insurance Company asking for V5 and Licence?!

Featured Replies

Well I've just taken out a new car insurance policy and the company is asking for my driving licence and V5 for the car. Not copies of, originals! :wonder: I've been insured by 5 different companies in the past and have never had this before. Would anyone on here in the business ask for the same?

I would tell them to do one tbh

Has the car previously been stolen and recovered at some point?

Never had that when taking out a policy.

Sure they asked for V5, MOT and photocopy of licence when I wrote a car off once, but that's entirely different.

Originals sounds iffy - I'd be inclined to send them a photocopy that shows all the details clearly. If they're worried about authenticity, they should be able to get DVLA to confirm that the details you've given them match up.

Recently changed our car insurance to Hastings Direct and they have asked for this, plus confirmation of previous insurance for non claims discount.

Have nothing to hide, no points on licence etc, so supplied copies. I suspect that with insurance premiums going through the roof due to uninsured drivers etc insurance companies are perhaps beginning to do more rigorous checks on drivers background.

Not stolen before, but feel reassured that another company is also asking for them too. I'll just send them copies I think.
