Turbo Trouble

Featured Replies

help , i have a skoda octavia tdi 110 51 reg, i got trouble with the turbo cutting out at 3,000 rpm mainly in third gear ,but restart the car and the turbo comes back. been to 2 garages changed map sensor on turbo intercooler made no difference, put a second hand turbo i had made no difference , stripped my old one cleaned it out ,put it back on seemed ok for a week then turbo cut out again but restarting made no difference no tubo at all now ,somebody help

Given the work which has been done with regard to swapping turbos, etc I would imagine the options are limited. Has the car been scanned for fault codes?

Possible issues:

- faulty CTS

- vacuum leak/vacuum issue

- n75 valve failure

- faulty MAF

I found the rigid vacuum pipe from the pump to the servo has split at one of the joints, which certainly did not help matters.

fist time it was pluged in the faults it came up with was 1. manifold flap changeover valve 2. pressure control present, 3 .air mas meter, the garage had it all weekend and they changed the turbo boost pressure valve , still the same

last time it was plugged in the only fault that came up was turbo over boosting the garage said it he thinks turbo

Unplug the MAF sensor & see if it runs better, if it does you have a duff MAF.

Unplug the MAF and see how it drives, if performance is back up, then the chances are the MAF is faulty. If you want to take the route of minimum cost do the following:

- check for vacuum leaks, run the engine, then kill it, wiggles the pipes and listen for a leak. Also check the condition of all the pipework.

- unplug MAF and drive if performance good, then swap it for a known good MAF (don't buy a cheapo on of ebay)

- next consider changing the CTS, especially if it is a black one rather than the current green ones

The overboost fault can be caused by multiple things, not just the the physical turbo, ie. if the control mechanism for the vanes fails, etc.

if cost mea fortune now still cant get to bottom of the problem ,dont wanna have to go to main dealer

CTS is only about £25.

Check my suggestions above before giving up

Oh, you are sure you are getting oil to the turbo aren't you.... When I had problems like this, it cost me a new MAF, then an n75, then some replacement vacuum hoses, and then I cleaned the turbo (so needed new gaskets) and then I had a split rigid vacuum pipe - these things are sent to try us!

There is a map of members with VAGCOM/VCDS who are willing to help, you could see if you could find someone local to give a few beer vouchers too for a bit of their time.

the garage changed n75 and the other valve at side of it but n75 is white the original one but the one they put on is black , thought they might have put wrong one on

The left hand one is normally black, and the n75 is white. iirc, the n75 valve is the same as the one which controls the anti-shudder (it is clipped up under the EGR/anti-shudder valve, so you could swap them over.

Is your oneway valve in the correct way? it sits between the two valves on the bulkhead, side closest to the n75 should be white.

TIme to roll out one of my favourite pictures:

I notice that you live in Chesterfield. I know a really good guy in Nottingham (Greg Bradshaw) who knows these cars inside out and VE TDI Octavia's are his speciality! He is a member on here (greg123), however he does have a website which is http://www.small-engine.co.uk/.

Greg will easily sort out your problem. He won't charge you the earth and he is a really nice chap as well! Highly recommended.
