help, cant get my gearbox out

Featured Replies

hi I cant get my gearbox out (its a 1998 VW Caddy aka Felicia) The gearbox wont go far enough to the left of the car to get it off the studs because the left hand end engine/box mount is hitting the side of the chassis. I've taken a photo, but i dont know how to post it (so maybe someone could help me with that too...? when I click on "Insert Image" it prompts me for a URL, but the photo is on my hard drive, not on the internet)

thanks

Mark

Get a free site hoster such as photobucket or servimg. Makes posting photos easier.

sometimes you need to remove the end cover off the gearbox, its the part that has the mount on, some oil will come out but not much if you have already drained it.

hi Felly

did the photobucket thing, uploaded but when I tried to post it, it came back with "cant use that file extension" which seems a bit strange since its just a jpeg (.jpg) is it too big 2.7Mb? cos guess what, I dont know how to shrink it :-(

anyway, heres the link http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m526/mark_biggles/?albumview=slideshow

I wondered if that might be the solution, I'll give it a go! :-)

YAAY! gearbox out ! taking the end cover off, and letting the jack under the engine down even more, gave me enough clearance to get the box off the (long) studs. The next problem is that the replacement gearbox I got from the VW breaker in Angmering (near Brighton) which is supposedly from a 1998 Caddy, looks nothing like mine :-( oh well, hopefully they'll exchange it for me.

thanks for the help guys
