Engine management light?

Featured Replies

I've had my Fabia about 4 weeks and it's engine management light keeps coming on, last night being the third time. Is there a common problem? Mine is an 03 plate.

What engine is it?

Matt

Sorry quine, the furthest any of us go is golden, not crystal! ;)

Even if we knew which engine it was, all we could say from that is that the CEL is alerting you to a fault code. Check the VCDS forum to see if there's someone with a reader near you.

1.4 16v... I meant are there any common engine errors with that Fabia? I took it in to the garage today they said it's a different fault to the last 2 times and were very reluctant to tell me anymore.... I am now car-less for a night :(

Seen more than my fair share of 16V Fabias with the engine light on. There are thousands of codes that could bring the light on, some of the favourites with that engine seem to be exhaust gas recirculation codes (usually on the earlier AUA and AUB engines), misfiring due to coil packs on the later engines, catalyst efficiency codes are not unheard of and can be quite involved to find the cause, coolant temperature sensors can play up, so it could be anything really. If you can get the codes we can be a bit more specific.

Go somewhere else in that case, if they aren't helping you find a solution.

You based in the yorkshire area right?

I can always stick a vag-com on and list out the codes...

I have, a different place to the last 2 times it happened lol!

I'm in Grimsby... think it's best I see what gets said tomorrow before panicking too much :(

If I'd realised at the Snipe the other night, I'd got a VCDS cable and my laptop still in the car from work, could have found out exactly what was wrong with that :( if you don't get it done by the next one then I can check it then for you.

Ah, I misread your post, I thought you said it had been on for the 4 weeks since you bought it and nowhere had managed to get rid of it. My bad!

Jayneyy, my best advice now would be to avoid Keith's like the very plague*, and the next time you get a CEL, take one of these guys up on their offer canny lass.

Meantime, have a look in your local paper and Yellow Pages to see if there's anyone calling themself an "independant VAG specialist" near you.

* That should tell you how bad they are; a guy who lives 300 miles away says to not use them!

Who's Keith? Haha! I've now been told it's the same problem, the EGR? I have a naff memory... They said they'd cleaned it and would be a case of trial and error, drove it home and taadaa!! Hello Mr EML!!
