blown engine

Featured Replies

well think my octavia 51 plate 19tdi has finally died a death.loud knocking,no power,aa man says sounds knackered, garage looking at it hopefully in next few days . anyone know of a fair priced replacement engine ???

only had the car a few months,192 thou on clock, full service from new, hoped it would last a few years more.hoping it can be rebuilt cheaper than replacing, soon find out when mechanic gets it.

These guys have a few around that year and are very good.

Good luck.

These engines are bomb proof so wait for a proper inspection.

thats what i thought,it started with a funny noise under car, then started tapping ,tapping got louder and started loosing a bit of power, few miles later hardly any power and tapping became a lot louder, rang aa and when he got there he reckon engine knackered.then mechanic said when i got home it could well be injector trouble not engine.so he turned it over for a listen and engine just locked up while it was running. thik i be looking for new car and sell this one as spares. :(

Slipped cambelt.... by more than just a tooth or two?

can they slip tho? wouldnt of thought so as the teeth are not small.

Did the oil light come on when you were driving? does the oil light work? (may of been disconected by previous owner to hide a fault if you have only recently bought it)is there any oil in it? if the rest of the car is in good condition & your happy with it id put a secondhand engine in(fit a new cambelt at the same time & maybe a clutch if no recent record of a replacement).

no lights came on,dont think their disconnected, previous owner was oldish fella, seemed really genuine, only sold it to upgrade to newer skoda est.is in brill condition, ful srvice from new,all reciepts for all works done ,mots and evrything.just a bit of bad luck i think, somethings broke and lodged in engine by sounds of things, was driving lovely then a slight tapping noise, that got seriously worse over 5 miles, then just ceased when ticking over out side house. gonna sell it for spares and try and pick up another one with less miles on clock and a bit newer maybe. :'(

well update is,paid 1700 quid to a firm in cardiff who supplied and fitted a recon engine for me,all done in a week, problem was the water pump,it broke up and went in side no 1 cylynder, damaging the injector, glow plug and jamming up piston, dear bloody water pump change i know, pity it didnt just seize and over heat.

I doubt very much it was the water pump impellor bits that got into the cyl as this would be impossible unless the water ways in the block & liner broke up in which case there would of been a very big bang & a big hole & lots of mess, the water pump breaking up will of caused the over heating but the damage to the engine internals must of been caused by something else. Glad you got it fixed, ready for the next 200k! :)

Strange description! The water pump impeller can't possibly get into a cylinder.

Glad to hear it's fixed, but you could have probably bought another car for £1700!

Glad its sorted mate, Now you say that it might of been the impellor that broke, seized and in turn that would make the cam belt slip?

if its like the petrol AUQ engine the water pump is driven by the cam belt so if that seizes it buggers up the timing?

Billy

1700 that's stupid amount of money twice the value of the car !!!!

As for water pump causing issue in cylinder one if that was said to you by the people who fitted the new engine I would be worrying!!!!!!

well i know little about engines, but thats what was explained to me by lady on desk, dont know if she said it wrong, but on paper work it says "engine totally broken up in no1 cylynder.replace defective water pump,no1 injector repaired as nozzle broke of during engine failiure, replaced no1 cylinder glow plug.she said that water pump broke up and caused engine damage, car didnt overheat ,and nothing was leaking, car is running nice now,and as for buying new car or paying double what cars worth, wake up,have you tried finding a octavia estate with new engine for 1700 quid, ive looked for a while, payed 1200 for this one with 190 thou on clock and that was a bargain.
