DPF

Featured Replies

Hi All,

After a little experience and lots of research I wanted to write something down to help others and its better to be prepared unlike myself but I was lucky.

The Do's and Don't are quite short but I hope should stop you from emptying your wallet.

Don't:

Drive very far if your DPF light comes on

If you do have to drive it will go into limp mode stop and call your recovery

Why should you do this, when the DPF light comes on it means that it can not go into regeneration mode and something has caused a problem.

If your DPF will not regenerate it will fill up with carbon soot from the engine THIS IS BAD!! the more your engine runs the more soot produced and the DPF has on a small space to fill (I think about 60 grams) and if you fill to 95% capacity then you are looking at a £1800 bill for a replacement.

Mine came on and I drove 7 miles and managed to fill to 50%

Do's

Call your recovery and get it to a garage that can set your car into the right regen mode after finding out what caused the problem in the first place. If you have Skoda Recovery use them they usually have the parts on board and can fix it at the roadside the regen process can take up to an hour depending on how full yours is.

Change the vacuum controller for the DPF if it has not been done already I will post the part numbers.

A month or so after my DPF fault I now have another fault which I think is related, the vains on my turbo have seized. I believe this was caused by residual build up of soot which was left over by the DPF failure now my vains are stuck open so I do not get any boost except at above 3k rpm, this happened on the motorway and went into limp mode. If the vains had stuck at a lower rpm I think I would be getting over boost fault codes instead of low vacuum boost http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16683/P0299/000665.

Items to do.

1: First I am going to try a double dose of Millers to reach an higher temp to hopefully burn the soot

2: if 1 fails use innotecworld.com turbo cleaner How to link

3: if 2 fails remove turbo and clean, Turbo strip down and vains pic

4: any other thoughts

Hope this helps somebody

Darren
