Lurching on cold start-VRS Oct

Featured Replies

Had a weird one yesterday, after a cold start it seemed to want to stall when pulling away to the point of having difficulty moving off. When on diagnostics the Fault Code came up with, Bank1 mixture adaption tooo rich and they said it could be:

1/. FPR

2/. Injectors

3/. Charcoal cannister-N80

Seems fine when warmed up and OK today cold start. Do you think my Fuel Pressure Reg. is on the way out or perhaps the MAF sensor needs cleaning as its never been done?

Any ideas what this might be as it doesn't do your confidence much good when it won't pull away at all, just seemed to want to stall?

Its OK fine today.

I would let the car warm up for a couple of minutes before driving off and see if this makes a difference. If it does I would live with the problem. My Felicia sometimes stalls at a critical roundabout a couple of miles into a journey - but only when the weather is very cold. I believe that a modified ECU is the cure but the cost is prohibitive, so I anticipate the problem and try and stop it by nifty footwork on clutch, throttle and brake.

changed my coolant tempeture sender a few days ago because of cr4ppy cold running, seems to have done the trick 22 quid and 6 pence

What sort of poor running symptoms did you experience as the dealership have had a few vRS's in with coolant sender problem of the same mileage /age?

Dennis,

I have never had the slightest problem on cold start, its usually very eager to pull; this felt like it ws going to die and would have done if I hadn't declutched.I agree that would be one way around it if it reoccurs.

Mines always rough on starting...I never drive off until the revs have settled to the 1k or below rpm mark. This is for first start....warm or cold ambient temps. The time taken to settle depends on how cold it is.

Driving off before then the car stutters along until warm.....revs are initially high due to the VVT sorting itself out.

Haven't had any error codes....although I've just recently had the temp sensor changed as it put one of the warning lights on several times.

mine was stuutering and nearly stalling on start up.

got worse the more ancilaries i used, climate,ICE,rear screen heater ,lights etc.its much better now and as adrian above i have started letting it warm up and watch revs drop down to under 1k rpm,hey it does the turbo good too.

but if in a hurry i can jump in now and start it up and not worry too much at the junction at the end of our cul de sac.

hope this helps

edit.42k miles Y reg vrs octy ;)

Checked with dealer who said temp sensor symptoms are bad starting when cold or hot and would put up specific ECode so this is not the problem.

Mine has always pulled OK when cold (even when on the fast running timer) apart from a slight flat spot since having the ABD intake on light throttle. On this occasion it almost died several times so much so I couldn't pull away at all.

Fueling i.e. FPR seems most likely cause. Do they fail with age/miles

mine was fine, changed it to a 4 bar recently for my revo upgrade.

its now still working in an ibiza cupra, or i would have bunged it in the post, sorry

Where did you source it and how much, did it make any difference or just part of the remap so probably couldnt tell?

euro car pasrt will sell you one new for circa 30 quid,4 bar is only any use on a remapped car to add extra fuelling,no gains on a non remapped car.maybe someone on here has doen the same as me and got a spare 3 bar kicking about
