Rocker cover

Featured Replies

Hi there....

After discovering drops of oil underneath the car,My mechanic has said that the Rocker Cover gasket is the problem..I did let it go for a while,,but now the problem is worse,,so time to get it done. However,I'm living in Cork,Ireland,,and I'm being told here that the gasket alone cannot be changed,or even bought. From what I'm being told,I need the whole Rocker Cover.

I'm driving the 02 Octavia 1.9TDi 90 bhp with the ALH engine code.

So,,would anyone know where I can buy the part/s that I need?

How much would they be? (Delivered)

And hopefully a site that can take Paypal.

Any help would be most welcome.

Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 03 1.9Tdi L&K - the complete rocker cover two years ago was approx £80+ vat. The garage removed the rocker cover and used a engine gasket seal type compound which has lasted 2 years but may need doing again now. Unable to provide any answers for you but just my solution.

Thanks for the reply Smallbloke...

I done a bit of searching around,,and didn't want to pay big money for a whole new rocker cover,,when I knew there are places selling the gaskets seperate.

I tracked down a place in the UK,and I'm getting the gasket delivered to My door for just under €25 Euros.

I'll keep you posted on how I get on when I get it in case you or anyone needs something like this in the future.

Thanks again...

I've just been told the same about the gasket only being supplied with the cover.(Main agents!)

My garage wanted £160ish +VAT to swap the cover etc.

I didn't think that was affordable right now so would be interested to know from others who have fitted gaskets only.

Where did u get your gaskets online and how much have you paid.?

Cheers

I got one from the company in the link on My other post above,,but it turned out to be the wrong one.

It seems while you can get them,,you cannot get them for the ALH engine, which is strange.

You will notice from the link that DBP has there,,there's none for that ALH engine.

You have 2 options.....You can just buy a whole new rocker cover..Or remove the old gasket,,and just use sealer on there instead.

I used the second option,,and all good so far.

.

There must be a way as gee-man removed this rocker cover on the Vrs to paint it surely it's the same concept?? Maybe not but seems madness to change a whole rocker cover

Could try VW dealers and see if they sell it separately?

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

Thanks for the replies.

It went into a different garage today as it turned out to be a sump leak which they spotted when they changed the air con pump.

I got the new sump and silicone on ebay for £38 incl VAT :)

Sump fitted £70+VAT

The rocker gasket can wait to see if its still an issue.

I bought the gasket from skoda and paid £8? and done it myself!

see if these guys can help

That was for a VRS though, don't sell for a 1.9 TD, but as others have stated a gasket sealant should be ok.

Thanks for the replies.

Good news, did not really need to change sump but you got it sorted which is main thing.

Had to change sump as it had a hole in it. It had already been welded before apparently!

I'm not sure how many garages are prepared to try and weld aluminium sumps.

It came far cheaper than the one they quoted me but they did say they thought it was a mis-manufactured one as its now not possible to get a ring spanner on the drain bolt.

Might have to mod a flat spanner to change the oil.

Anyway, at least I can now go and get the oil off my drive somehow :)
