Bought a new fabia.... can i retrofit a maxi-dot?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I may as well introduce myself! I have a mk1 51plate fabia just now and have just bought an 09 plate 1.4 TDI estate which ill pick up at the weekend!! excited!!!

one thing though, I really dislike the trip computer (the standard one) and would love an upgrate to the maxi-dot. I've found a few complete dashpod units online that would do the job, however they say that it will need coded and possibly something to do with the immobiliser also?

I'm a complete novice with things like coding, so does anyone know if it would be possible to install - and how much money i'd expect to have to pay someone to do the technical stuff

cheers!!

Congrats on the purchase.

You could talk to Shark Performance about it; they've quite a bit of experience in Maxidot retrofits. Not sure if they've done a Fabia2 yet though.

Well done youve got the same engine as one of my fabia's you should be able to retro fit but would be expensive :(

thanks guys! I'm really excited bout the new car!

i contacted shark performance. They say its no problem to do and they can do it, however i'm in Glasgow so its a bit of a drive to get a new dash.

Does anyone know of people closer to me that do it, or indeed if any of the briskoda members do it?

right... i contacted my local dealer and the guy asked me if he knows the part i'm getting will definately fit my fabia. I said its a maxi-dot for a fabia diesel and he said again "are you 100% sure its the part for the job" i said, yes, it came from a written off fabia. his next point was that "we cant reduce the mileage on a new dash also" and i told him that this one has a smaller mileage than the one I have. then he said "well in that case we should be able to code it then"

i'm thinking he might not know an awful lot about it, is it worth the risk?

You need to know what you're doing, particularly with regard to the immobiliser.

I wouldn't have thought a main dealer would have entertained the idea of fitting a used set of clocks into your car, but if they're in agreement then fair enough. I'd get a written quote, listing what they're doing and the agreed price, in advance - for piece of mind.

Congratulations!!! Not long now til you pick it up!
