Tyres - speed rating

Featured Replies

The car is a 1.9 Skoda Octavia TDI, max speed 113 mph (181 kph)

I'm looking at replacing all four tyres, so I want to shop around. The required tyre size is 195/65/R15, and the current tyres are all 'V' rated, which goes up to 240 kph

(The ratings are S=180, T=190, U=200, H=210, V=240)

The Michelin web site suggests H rated, and I may well go for that, but not necessarily for Michelin tyres - V expensive and quite noisy by all accounts). What margin on the speed rating would the wise briskodians be looking for ?

And does anyone have any experience/comments on Yokohama S306's, or etyres mobile tyre fitting service ?

one of the guys at work had eTyres come to his house to fit his tyres & he was very happy with them :)

Have a read of The Wheel and Tyre Bible here. H rated (210kph/130mph) should be fine but think about the weight rating too and try and match or better that for your current tyres. For comparison my Felicia's are rated 79T (437kg) and my 4X4's are 91W (615kg). I wouldn't recommend Dunlop SP Sport 2000 on the grounds that they are very noisy on some types of road surface, although grip and wear are fine.

Ah! Do you guys know which brand of tyres makes 205/45/R15s?? I've got 205/50s but I want lower profile wih the same width, and I know these tyres are manufactured.

Anyone?
