Just fitted a Phatbox in my Octy

Featured Replies

Just fitted a VW OEM Phatbox in my Octavia hooked up to VW OEM sat nav. Sound quality is very good and it's really easy to use. For those that don't know what it is more info can be found here. Below is a photo of the installation:

Nice and compact, I was looking at one of these myself but it was a tad expensive.

Did you get it through the mkiv group buy? if so how much did you get it for as I've had problems with my account and couldn't login.

Cheers

Seems the ideal solution for playing and controlling MP3's through OEM HU's. There's also the feature to download books and stuff but not tried that yet.

I wouldn't buy it from a UK VW dealer though at

that looks pukker, so when your listening to mp3's does it show you song/track name?

I see you have the same easy-scratch plastic as I do ;-)

No, but you get voice prompts for everything including album name, artist name and playlist name. Check the link in the post at the top of the thread for details.

Yes, although it seems to look much worse in the photo than it actually is.

sorry just been looking at the link! Whats the software like that you use on your pc? Is it just a case of copying mp3's over using windows file manager?

Just drag and drop and is very similar to file manager. It can also rip direct from CD's.

Eddy - is your SatNav HU the MFD2 like the current option on the 05 Octy (shown here: http://mfd2.heim1.de/index.php/MFD2 )??? I really want to get a PhatBox, but want to make real sure it's gonna connect up to my HU before I buy.

Was it literally a case of removing the plug from the changer and plugging it into the PhatBox?

I can't see the pic

No but there are people on uk-mkivs.net who have fitted them in Golf's with an MFD2. It was just a matter of unpluging the changer and plugging the phatbox in for me but it's worth checking if it's the same for the MFD2 as I think there are 2 different changer cables available.

Pic is not working for me either

Thanks Eddy - will check that out.

The MFD2 should be shown at the link I posted?? Hmm - strange. Sometimes the site is a bit tempramental. Pasting the link again...::

Maybe I didn't insert the link correctly last time??

tis for me...

Looks very nice that. Anyone know if these boxes work with the standard Skoda HUs, like the Symphony in the Fabia? Would be very interested in one if they do

I've tried the Phatbox works with the Octavia Symphony, VW Gamma, VW Sat Nav and Seat Alana. Not tried a Fabia Symphony but if it uses the same CD changer connector it should be fine.

That's good news if that's the case. Would be good if someone could confirm 100%

Well I took the plunge and have parted with some hard-earned from my PayPal account for one. Hopefully it will be here by the end of the week, but will post an update as soon as I have it tested with the MFD2 Navi HU

Right, had a look at fitment for the Furby today and drew a blank. I thought there would be a changer connector under the passenger seat in preparation, am I wrong?

If anyone has one of these fitted in a Fabia, please let me know :)

I would think you'll have to buy a changer cable, I did for the Ibiza.

Got any more details Eddy - model number and price etc?

Have you mounted it under the passenger seat in the Ibiza?
