Fault code storage

Featured Replies

Hi all

Thought this is probably the best place to post this sorta question.

My Car (Mk1 Fabia vRS) currently has a fault somewhere. The glow plug warning light flashes intermittently (Which indicated that there is a fault somewhere according to forum searches!). The latest episode of flashes lasted 3 days and has now randomly gone off.

Car is going into the Stealers to be looked at. My only worry is that if the light isn't flashing there wont be a fault registered on the ECU, and they will just come back with "we cant fix it until the light starts flashing again"?

Or does the ECU keep a log of all fault codes for x amount of days or until the fault code is cleared manually?

Hope all that made sense!

Any help would be much appreciated

Fault codes are logged until either cleared or for a set amount of time depending on the code.

Thanks a lot Gizmo, Just what I wanted to know, puts my mind at ease now!

Why not find a member with VCDS to save on dealer costs?

If the car wasn't under warranty I would go down that path, certainly would be a lot easier and quicker.

Will see what the dealer comes up with and take it from there

It wont matter. Will save you diag costs for them to tell you the same thing. Wont affect your warranty unless you've done something with VCDS to mess the car up.

Had the car scanned today and is being fixed under warranty. Was the Brake switch which is quite common. They also found that the radiator has a leak so also being fixed under warranty
