A Stupid Question about Headlights

Featured Replies

Sorry for this really stupid question, but...

I have a rather lovely white vRS (with black alloys and black other bits). I understand the DRLs and that they become sidelights. As you look at the lights the bulb towards the outside of the car (below the indicators) are the dipped beam and full beam. The bulb next to that (a kind of blueish bulb) that is nearest the grill never comes on. Can anyone tell me what it is for? I hope my question makes sense and even though I am obviously 'outing' myself as incredibly stupid, I'd really like to know!

Cheers

its a common question.

Short answer is they are blanking bulbs.

Long answer, those sockets are used by the non-vrs spec fabias as actual sidelights. but are not needed to fuction on VRS as the DRLs fulfill that function.

I was actually about to ask the same question! Fantastic atlast I have an answer! I was looking in the manual and I could not find this out.

Knowing that they are blanking bulbs... any chance we (VRS owners) can get them functioning? i.e put some sort of bulb in to use them as additional sidelights etc?

Cheers in advance.

I would imagine it would be very easy may just be a wire or fuse

there was a thread a couple weeks ago where somebody put in some extra wires and relays to get the cluster sidelights to turn on in sync with the drls

Ah, brilliant. Thanks so much - really appreciate it. Shame something can't be done with them; seems such a waste.

On our Elegance TSI 85 (and Yeti) there used as night time parking lights; activated by the position of the indicator arm with the engine off.

Hi,

with the engine off select right turn indication to light up the front parking light and tail light on the right hand side only and obviously left turn for the left.

By the way wish we had the cornering headlights, think the standard set-up dipped beam is pretty poor; only opted for corner fogs. Mind saying that the cornering headlight function on the Yeti keeps failing (need to get the dealer to look at it) :S

Aye the cornering headlights are good especially on our twisty roads, I agree the headlights are awful that's why I've changed all the bulbs to ultra h7 xenon gas filled bulbs so much better I hope but still haven't been out after dark ;)
