Renewal - My experiences

Featured Replies

Well, it's early and I can't sleep so I thought I'd let you all know about my current insurance experience.

I've got a modified fabia (no BHP increase BTW) and currently with Brentacre. The premium went up nearly £100 this year, expected, as my wife's unmodified Golf went up the same amount. So the premium, just over £500. Rung around...

Sky Insurance

I can't say I've had a "good" experience, but it wasn't a bad one as such. Emailed them the details and mods, got a callback which I missed.. so I rang in the day after. Asked to speak to the guy who dropped me the call, and they were all busy. The lady said she would get him to call back but no-one did.. fair enough.. rang again later on and got someone else. I did ask to speak to the guy who emailed / called but the current operator said it would only take a minute to sort the details out. I should at this point of insisted to be passed through but being a good guy I gave him the benefit.. obviously lacking my email (which I mentioned more than once) I spent 15 minutes giving him the details, mentioned the forum etc..., and the quote came back as £700.. that was a waste of time.

Green Light

Emailed details and got back "We are unable to cover this model vehicle due to our claims experience". That's the end of that. Notice "our", that's not a typo.

These guys use Highways at Lloyd (which Brentacre use) therefore they couldn't get a better quote as Highways won't quote against themselves (obviously)

Nice guys, very helpful, came in close but still about £90 to dear ... shame.

A-Plan

Well it appears that they are not covering my postcode, which is interesting. I wonder if they use the same under writers as Green Light...

Brentacre

They don't do voluntary excess, they can't change the compulsory excess, but were very very helpful and up front about the hit on the postcode.. Must say, happy to give them the return business. So if you're looking at renewals, it's always worth giving them a call...

Thanks,

Phil.

What have you modified without increasing engine output?

Have you tried the likes of Go-Compare with your details?

Because of the anti-roll bar / strut brace / 312mm brake upgrades most quotes from standard insurers are insane. If it was something like tinted windows / different alloy wheels then I'd be okay.

Might have a pop though.

Thanks.

Having just got an Octy II, I did a comparethemarket(CTM) first and got a premiumn of £500

I then did a gocompare and got it at £360 from one that wasn't on CTM

So, comparing the comparison sites is not a bad idea either ;)
