Cam belt and water pump cost

Featured Replies

Hi.

My 1.9tdi is on 114,000 and due a service. Might as well get the fan belt and water pump done. Garage is quoting me £300 for the job. Is that reasonable?

I'm getting it serviced by a vag specialist, but is it ok to get the belt and pump done by local guy if or is much cheaper?

PS, the above cost is just for the belt and pump. The full, variable, service is about £200 on top.

Timing belt job 300 reasonable. Long life service 200 extortionate. Mine cost 95. The oil is only a wee bit more expensive, same filter, same procedures, 200 is a rip off I think - cheaper at dealers.

Thanks for that. Dealer told me over £300!

I'm in Leicester. 95 sounds really cheap...where are you?

Northampton.

95 quid was a local garage. They are excellent and very efficient - I use them for the vast majority of all work on my Mk1.

Mine is a 2.5 tdi model.

This garage uses Valvoline Long Life fully synthetic oil, VAG507.00 spec. And yes the LL service was only £95.

I had the belt kit done along with the water pump and coolant today at a VAG specialist in Leicester, was a bit dearer than your quote at £334 all in but all VAG parts (presumably from TPS) and a stamp in the book. I only know of two specialists in Leicester Kam, which one were you going to?

Lions off dysart way. He said about that much I think, but £500 all in if I had it done with the service. To be honest, I've put out on hold and just having the service and mot done for bow, just in case that brings other things up. Will have the belt done next month.

What are the places you know of?

I got a quote of £350 from Lions - I don't want to break any site rules re sponsors so will send you a PM with the details of the specialist I went to.

My mrs had her Golf in at Listers in Nuneaton for MOT last week and they quoted her £399 for the cambelt kit and water pump on my TFSI which I didn't think was too bad for a main dealer (albeit a VW dealer)
