oil filter

Featured Replies

hi all

before i start you will guess that i am totally useless with cars,i want to change the oil filter on my octavia vrs tdi but could someone tell me where i could find this and is it just a case of swapping them over or is there anything else i need to know when doing it.Need help.

Hi Paul,

When you change the oil filter it is necessary to change the oil as well.

Whilst the bonnet is open and your hands are dirty you may as well swap the air filter too.

All these jobs are relatively easy but do require an amount of mechanical sympathy / knowledge.

The biggest chore with a DIY oil change is having the equipment to do it, an oil filter removal tool is useful (but not essential), a container to catch the oil, a trolley jack and axel stand together with the right size socket and wrench and a Torx screwdriver for the removal of the plastic engine bay undertray.

If by your own admission you are not too confident perhaps it would be better to pay your local garage an hours labour to do it for you?

Good luck!

There are videos on YouTube telling how to do it. I followed a golf gti guide for my vrs petrol. I guess there are differences between the petrol and diesel but these will be subtle.
