Boot/ Sills paintwork protection

Featured Replies

I hope to pick up a 2010 Octavia Estate by the end of the week, and have been looking at what i will need to buy in terms of long term protection of the interior/ exterior.

I have already priced mats, boot liner etc, but when i went to find a suitable rear bumper/ sill protector for when my wife is loading/ removing the pushchair i could not find anything which a) looked decent (car is white most protectors are black) and B) (this should be b with closed bracket!!) was any way reasonably priced.

It got me thinking about alternatives and wondering what others do.

I see there is a clear (i think) material stuck on the paintwork near the rear wheels presumably to stop stone chips. Is it possible to buy this over the counter and stick it on myself?. Also, probably less up to the job, but what about stickers, the sort the police use to stick to the car (chevrons etc) can this be bought in plain form and then cut to suit. I know the second option is not going to be as strong as the first as it's not produced to prevent scratching, but 2 or three layers may do the job.

Skoda actually sell a bumper/sill protector...It's a thick peice of plastic which attaches to the back or the rear boot sill, has a warning triangle printed on it and will fold up back under the boot carpet...costs about 9quid? Helicopter tape, or 3M vinyl wrap would be alternate solutions too

Get VentureShield fitted to protect against stone chips. I had mine done on the forecourt.

I bought one for my vRS estate to also protect mine from the missus / pushchair combo!

It is grey but perfectly matches the other grey plastic on the car making it look like original equipment. I'm very pleased.

Also, their customer service is superb! I am nearby so they fitted mine (although it is very easy to do at home too). They didn't fit it perfectly centrally and it covered (by a mm) the rear parking sensors. They redesigned it to clear the sensors & fitted a new one for me free of charge!

Highly recommended all round!

nockmeister thanks, but knowing my wife, having to take something out (as simple as i would imagine it is) and then have to fold it away again would be too much trouble! I think i have seen similar ones which velcro to the carpet on some site.

Also, i would be hoping to buy a plastic boot liner which may interfere with the storage of such an item.

I am tempted by the 3M vinyl wrap. I will go google it now.

dunc69, i had looked at these, but i was concerned that the dark colour may be a little much for a white car and also, the price of £50+ delivered has put me off. I would have no doubt that for protection it would be the best solution, but i just can't justify it, hence wondering about cheaper solutions which i accept won't be as sturdy.

Thanks

Personally think they are a bargain, but understand your reticence re colour. My car is Silver, so not too different from yours, and the contrast between the light and dark grey looks fine. In fact it nicely matches the other dark sections of the car - roof rails, mirror supports, front grills and tyres.

Up to you! Good luck.
