1.8 TSI Superb - low oil pressure

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm tring to find an answear to this problem. I have a 2010 Superb2, 1.8 TSI, M6, did already 45000 km (27961 miles)

All good except 3-4 times this mesage: "Oil pressure, Engine speed max 4000 rpm", message received durring normal city drive.

No oil was added between services (fixed interval)- no warning message to do it. Some small talk from dealer but no action from their side: maybe a bad oil pump

Any advice ?

Thanks

Are you sure it's not just the maxi-dot needing a reset. Or maybe the sensor measuring the oil pressure

Are you sure that the problem is that the oil level warning is not working and the oil level is getting too low and causing the pressure problem.

I have a SEAT León 1.8TSI

3 times this message: "low Oil pressure, engine speed 4000 rpm max", message received during normal city drive traffic (engine idling)

I have had 3 times the message: "low oil pressure, engine speed max. 4000rpm", and yellow light of the tachometer icon:

lowoilpressure.jpg

Yellow light of the tachometer icon: is explained in the Manual SKODA Yeti 2011, page 24 (only appears in the Spanish manual, the manual in english does not appear that information)

testigobajapresinaceite.jpg

Yellow light of the tachometer icon: Problem with the oil pressure Engine / Go to the official service immediately so that

the vehicle inspected. Along with this symbol is shown information on the maximum allowed regime engine

When a yellow symbol, in some countries sounds a warning beep

Technical information I have, and testing I've done:

The oil pump (engine 1.8TSI) is two stages:

"It is an intelligent way of Regulating the oil flow needed for two oil pressure Different stages: one stage at low rev ranges of 1.8 bar beneath 3,500 rpm, and another stage for Higher revs at 3.3 bar. With This system, pressure loss is Reduced , leading to lower CO2 emissions ".

I have tested the oil pressure switches (pressure sensor). The 1.8 TSI engine, carries two, placed at the base of oil filter:

- The black color is the oil pressure switch until 3500rpm. Runs at 1.8bar.

- The dark blue is the oil pressure switch above 3500rpm. Runs at 3.3bar.

1) I disconnect the pressure switch dark blue, and I accelerate 3500rpm, I get the yellow light of the tachometer icon:

2) I disconnect the pressure switch black, and I accelerate 1500rpm, I get the red light of oil (low oil pressure, stop the engine)

"Probably no connection but my daughter had this on an old Metro years ago and it was just the sensor."]

"i have posted a few times about this. It was mine did Saami oil level sensor on the underside engine. Temp sensor 45 pound, 25 pound oil. and poss new filter nearlly If Its time for a change. might as well its the cheapest thing out the 3."]

Changing the oil level sensor solves the problem?

Have technical information about it?

The problem is not solved by changing the oil pressure switches (pressure sensors)

Same issue goes with my Superb 1.8 TSi. 2010. The cause is a faulty level sensor that fails to disconnect before the engine runs over 4000 rpm. At this stage the oil pressure increases up to 3 bar draining the oil pan enough to trigger the sensor level.

My car do consume some 200 ml of oil during the warranty inspections (15k km) but is not a big problem as I have some 400 ml remaining from the 5 liters when replace the oil.

We might enjoy a coffee from time to time at Sabroso if time is not a great limitation for you :giggle:
