6 weeks out of warranty... so i get flashing glow plugs :(

Featured Replies

This is the first Skoda i've ever kept till it's gone outside of warranty, and it looks like its letting me down. Thoroughly disappointed. I've had a read through here, so to be fair, I know its likely to be:

1) an exhaust sensor that's goosed

2) the glow plugs that have gone

3) or a brake light / switch issue

4) (anything else????)

My problem seems to be intermittent though - the light came on 3 times on my way home tonight (on the last 10 minute stretch of my journey), and each time for no more than 15 seconds

I've already had an exhaust sensor replaced (in which case, I assume it has a years parts warranty?) - but surely if that was the problem it wouldn't be intermittent.

I've not been able to check the brakes until I read on this place and the car is behaving at the moment and brakes are fine.

I know this subject has kinda been covered, but any suggestions (and does anyone who is a bit partial to a free-pint have VCDS in Stoke on Trent / South Cheshire??)

edit: hopefully people realise, but just in case - its a 3 year old, diesel VRS (CR170) :)

more than likely the brake-switch..

So in theory, would it kick in (periodically) when i go to do some breaking? - If so, i'll keep an eye out to see if it co-incides with any attempted breaking. I certainly didn't notice any 'limp mode' that is talked off which would indicate an engine issue (if I understand correctly?) so hopefully it is the switch...

Last time I had break switch problems was on a 1996 corsa... is it still something that a good clean will fix or will i need a replacement? :)

You have 6 years under SOGA so take it back to supplying dealer.

Do you have a full Skoda service history on the vehicle?

If so, contact Skoda UK and ask for goodwill - you'll probably get it.

As for SOGA - I thought for the 6yrs you had to prove the fault was inherent which isn't easy.

Cheers guys - yeah, its full skoda service history so will look at that option if it happens again.

i've just been out in it tonight - around 6 miles round trip and not a single beep out of it.

I do around 70 miles per day normally but won't be making my normal daily commute till Friday now so will see what happens that day :)

If your commute brings you a bit further north I can sort a VCDS scan if you like...

Cheers for the offer Wardy - head up to Warrington quite a bit usually - is that your neck of the woods?

Not far off - drop me a PM and we can see if something can be sorted.

Since May this year my 2.0 CR Diesel has had the following 3 faults.

1st time (intermitently doing the following)'Return to Workshop' displayed with flashing glow plug light eventually followed by the engine warning light being permenantly displayed, did NOT go into limp home mode. Called Skoda assist, car recoverd and taken to dealer, Resolution new exhaust temp sensor.

2nd time 'Return to Workshop' displayed with flashing glow plug light, instant lack of power & into limp mode. Called Skoda assist, car driven to dealer (when restarted all power was back and no warning lights being displayed), Resolution fuel pressure sensor.

3rd time 'Return to Workshop' displayed with flashing glow plug light, instant lack of power & into limp mode. Pulled over, turned engine off, waited 10 seconds and restarted, all warning lights off and power back, drove further 100 trouble free miles before taking into the dealer. Resolution 'Checked wiring loom in plenium chamber, fault with wiring loom, checked wiring loom and repaired and tested' !!!

dropped you a PM Wardy - cheers

Car nearly did the 70 mile round trip today but on the M6 the engine management light (or whatever its called) kicked in and has stayed on, and around 5 mins from home I started to get random "glowplug flashing" again so unfortunately it doesn't look like a brake light issue... damn!

Checked and just over a year ago, I had the following done on it (under warranty):

Code 51: Sensor - Engine warning light on GFF and renew inline sensor line

.... whatever that means! :D
