56 Plate VRS diesel

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 56 plate Vrs has started to leak somewhere, as my footwell is swimming.

Can anyone tell me if its common, and what could cause it?

door seal's are a very common problem on the octavia's. if i leave my car for a while and it rains when i open the doors water pours out from the bottom of the doors and you can see the top of the seal thats on the car just above the sill is wet right over the top. I don't know why the doors don't drain when they are closed, but im getting worried that it could be starting to rust the floor pan.

Hi

The doors are in three layers: 1 outside "door", 2 a hidden metal carrier for window winders etc, and 3 the inside trim.

The flat-ish metal carrier is pop riveted to the outer door and the join is sealed. See guide here My link

When it rains the water flows down the glass and into the door cavity hitting the inside surface of the carrier.

If all goes well, the water collects at the bottom of the door and runs out onto the cills and out onto the ground.

If the seal between the carrier and door fails then the water runs down the carrier and out of the door on the inside of the car.

It emerges at the bottom edge of the door where the inner door trim meets the paint and runs into your carpets.

This is a very common problem on Fabias and Octavias.

The cure is basically to take off the inside trim and seal the doors with mastic/sealant.

There is a guide here with pictures http://octavia-vrs.com/cms/content/leaking-door-carriers

I would check the pollen filter seal as well. This was a common problem on VAG cars as I had it perish on my 12mth old VW Bora which resulted in rain pouring into the footwell and needing all the carpets replaced.

Thanks for that mate. I see that in the link you have put up, it is the rear doors they talk about? The floor in the rear of my car is bone dry, only the drivers footwell is wet, I take it the front doors share the same problem?

Thanks

Kyle

Could you or anybody else tell me where the pollen filter is please

Im a Plant man.

I am super paranoid about this, so make sure I check my door every time there has been a massive downpour (recent days have proved this).

At the moment (touch wood) they seem ok, but as soon as I see leaks that start causing problems I will be sealing my door carriers as per the guide.

Did this to my front doors as well after a water ingress many moons ago...no worries ever since.

The pollen filter in european cars is found on the right side in the foot well behind the glove compartment. Not sure which way it is in UK cars, tho...
