Real World Fuel Consumption Figures - Stage 1 Map

Featured Replies

Thought some of you might be interested in my observations on the effect of a Stage 1 Map on my VRS.

Yesterday I travelled from the South Coast up to Hinckley, Leicestershire to visit R-Tech to get my vRS mapped. I fuelled the car to the brim with Tesco Momentum before I left on the trip up north. The trip comprised of 40 miles of A roads/cross country to the M25 and then around half of the M25 to the M1. The trip on the M25 was slow as it was early morning rush hour. M1 was 80-85mph (indicated) but also around 15/20 miles was 50mph through Road Works. When I was near to R-Tech I topped the tank again and calculated I had achieved 36.2 mpg( trip computer showed 37.9. Total Journey distance of around 150 miles. I travelled the remainder of the trip to R-Tech had the car re-mapped and then returned to the nearby Tescos and refilled the tank. That part of the trip covering the work on the rolling road increased the fuel consumption to 26.7 mpg.

Well pleased with the re-map, which gave a 14% increase in power :) but more importantly a 42% increase in Torque  I returned home on 95% of the same route home as I had used in the morning up to R-Tech. Topping the tank back at home I calculated I had achieved 40.2 mpg ( 11% improvement ) Interestingly the Trip computer showed 38.9 mpg for the return trip.

R-Tech thought I had some issues with my actuator/N75 Valve :( which I need to investigate further so I may see further improvement in fuel consumption.

Anybody have any idea why the trip computer should be over optimistic on Fuel comsumption before the re-map and under optimistic post re-map

Before my map I was getting around 32mpg now after map its around 27mpg.

God knows how some of you are getting almost 40mpg.

If I drive at 50mph knocking it out of gear going downhill, coasting up to junctions I was getting 36mpg.

I had mine done with a mate and I think its just under, if not the same as before. I haven't had any long journeys so I haven't trip it on the motorway.

I get about 30mpg most of the time and 36mpg last week on a long run. Using 98RON fuel on a stage 2 map.

I managed 40(according the the computer) on the drive home from buying the car. Was a long motorway trip. (non remapped as yet)

BTW, sitting at 80 uses about 10% more fuel than at 70 mph. ;) Worth considering if you are doing economy runs.

Our national speed limit is 100kph (62mph) - and this weekend they were nicking people for doing over 104 so my cruise control was on and set to 99kph.

Bad thing to do!

your usint fuel that way mate. keep it in gear and the engine uses NO FUEL at all as the momentum of the car keeps the engine going. when the RPM gets to around 1200 iirc the fuel slightly cuts back in but only small amounts.

On a trip to work with the IP stage 1 ECU in my car I get 40-42mpg over a week.

I turn the car off at lights (I know the sequences and the length I have) that saves quite a bit!

Nearly never brake let the car slow on her own and read the traffic (still do the limits)

When in traffic just pick a gear 2nd or 3rd and stay in it, just tickle the accel when needed but rarely do. (when the traffic is bad at the tunnels I actually get better MPG than when I just fly thru)

Getting out of cardiff I dont think my RPM ever goes over 2k change up early and still dont get left behind.

You should drive for Tesco, then you will be a very ECO driver lol. Fleetboard is all Ill say :D My scores from the start have been right up there lol.

Best speed for cruise controle Ive found is 62-64 mph there is enough momentum then for the car to cope with hills and descents. slower and the car uses more getting up the hills and faster means more fuel to keep it there.

This thread a few years ago would of been shot down! Fuel ECO in a vRS? why have the car? lol

Amazing how times change?

My vrs has a jabba stage 1 remap with a 3" down pipe and decat, piper exhaust and on a run to Blackpool from north Wales last weekend it averaged 39.7mpg and thats sitting at 80mph pretty much all the way. On the way home I sat at 65mph mainly because I was tired but my mpg reading went up to 43.5 mpg. It used less than half a tank on the whole trip so I'm quite pleased with it to be honest

I thought the calculation for 'Computer MPG' is held within the ECU map. So I imagine with a remap the calculation could be altered...
