Fabia 1.4 2000 cam chain replacement

Featured Replies

My son has replaced the cam chain and sprockets on his 2000 Fabia 1.4

He seems to have done something wrong as firstly it doesn't stsrt and secondly there is very lillte compression i.e. 1-5 bar varying across the bores

Is sounds like either he has not aligned the crank/cam correctly or has bent the valves

We understasnd that there are 12 pins between the sprocket punch marks so that's all good and if he was 180 degrees away from TDC surely there would be compression

thus I have a couple of requests please ;

1. How do we find a perfect TDC to ensure that we have the sprockets aligned correctly

2. Does anyone have a picture of the cogs in situ at TDC so I can check when he strips it for the 3rd time

Are there any easy answers so I don't find myself stood in the rain offering useless support to him over the weekend ?

Thanks in advance

Andy

I think this should be in the Fabia section... not the Roadside Hotel: http://briskoda.net/forums/forum/26-skoda-fabia-i/

apologies, could someone move it for me please, I'd better dig around to find that Forum area, apologies :S

Be aware there is actually a manufacturing fault with the timing markings off. This thread should help http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/131845-idle-power-problem-14-mpi/

thanks for that, any ideas of where / how I should line the punch marks up ?

I'll check the old and new to see if there is a difference thanks for that, perhaps it we are out a tooth we'd be out of stroke hence low compression
