UPDATE: Maf Sensor Problems

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I think my MAF Sensor's giving me problems. Well basically I have turbo "lag" in 1st and 2nd gear. I disconnected the MAF and the car was running right again... Turbo kicking in around 2000rpm. But recently I disconnected the MAF again and the car runs the same.. Does this mean my MAF sensor is faulty? Also Is it possible to put a bigger MAF in? If so from what car? Is it a direct fit?

Thanks

Personally that is a very crude way to diagnose a faulty MAF.

Get vagcom. Buy the lead of ebay for £15. Download the software of vagcoms website. You can then logg on and if it's faulty you will have a fault code present. If there isn't you can see the output on the measuring blocks for the MAF.

Othwise book it into the garage and they might scan it for you for free. And point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps.

Mine was very similar to this, would put your foot down and it was really flat until the turbo kicked in, then took off. Changed the MAF and its fine now.

Get like for like. There are no "uprated" MAFs available to my knowledge. If you do get a new one, can I have your knackered one please as I need a housing to modify into a straight through for my own car - Mine no longer uses the MAF at all. :D

hey guys... just a quick update.. replaced the MAF today bought it from tps (sorry devonutopia they wanted a 54 pound surcharge if i didnt give my old maf sensor in) so i decided to exchange my old unit in and give them another 79 pound on top! so i replaced the unit and the car still does the same thing.. it has a flat point in first and second gear were the turbo kicks in really late around 3000RPM. now i have disconnected the maf still the same. do i have to clear the faults for the new maf to work properly? MPG has decreased and turbo kicks in late just in 1st and 2nd.

im really struggling with this guys help would be appreciated.

IMO get it to a specialist ASAP. Also IMO 1/2 gear the load on the engine is lower and it spins up quickly so anything that delays boost (boost leak or vacuum line holed) would have more of an effect.
