MKII

Featured Replies

Hi MK II owners,

I'm currently driving a MKI ED 100 130 TDI and for all it's faults is a very useful and solid car, albeit with no B road capability as we all know.

I'm looking to change into a used MKII CR TDI next year (143 or 168). Any thoughts on what to keep an eye out for? The more I look at the MKII as a package, it look's pretty unbeatable. Perhaps not the best at any one thing, but damn good at pretty much everything, loads of kit, space, hatch/boot, build quality etc etc.....

Any impressions good or bad would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I have never driven a Mk I, so cannot give you a comparison as such; only that the Mk II does feel a completely modern and up to date car to drive. In the two days that I have had mine I have been greatly impressed, especially by its quiet, comfortable progress. While not as sharp as a Mondeo, it is by no way out of its depth down a twisty B-road. Indeed, in this respect, it thoroughly shames the Mk V Golf I had been driving so I expect that, similarly, you will find the Mk II to be a far more enjoyable steer than the Mk I.

Thanks farmerjim,

Glad to hear good reports from the word go. To be honest, I'm not expecting many bad ones..!

Best of luck and happy motoring.

Cheers,

Rob

I upgraded my 2004 Superb Comfort PD130 to a brand new Superb Elegance Combi 170CR 10 months ago now.

Engine wise I miss the low down power of the PD, if I had wanted the engine to produce it's power like a petrol then I would of bought a petrol! (but at around 20K PA, maybe not :giggle:) It is not slow by any means, I just miss the delivery a PD gives you.

The only issues I have had in 14.500 miles is a 'sticky' syncro/gear selector making it nick 2nd gear when cold - repaired under warranty @ 10K, but I am not convinced it has cured the problem, the box is certainly not as smooth as the manual Fabia and Octavia courtesy cars I have been given.

Quality wise it is very good, my only real gripe is the quality (or lack of) of the carpets, all? Skoda's now have an almost heavy duty felt like material for the carpets

It is a much better car than the MKI in every way (except the carpets) and I loved my MKI

I should have my new 4x4 170 CR Elegance in a couple of weeks to replace my 2.5TDi Elegance, feedback will be duly given.

Thanks for the reply. Could you update on the gearbox issue when you have a resolution.

Much appreciated,

Rob

The gearbox in my 140 TDI is one of the best I have ever used. I hope it stays that way.
