Tailgate Trim

Featured Replies

Despite searching I can't find anything and Stu's link doesn't work anymore.

Does anybody have pictures of the inside of the tailgate with the plastic trim removed? Specifically the section around the window? I'm looking at fitting a glassmount antenna but would like to place it on the black area - ie; nearer the edge that placing on the clear window section would allow.

Cheers

Bump?

Hi Mate,

I tried this ages ago, fitting all the cable etc for the diversity antenna for the columbus, but hadn't got the correct rear screen! Doh!

I have some photos I took while doing it, but they may not be any use!

This was the connector for the Diversity Aerial, unfortunately it should have been on the other side of the tailgate and there would have been a second connector there. However, there was enough space between the glass and the metal to bond it in place & it be totally hidden!

Went for the Kufatec adapter in the end! But you never know until you try! Sorry about the plaster :'( Some of that plastic was "rather" sharp!

With regards to Stu's site, this link Click Here Worked a few minutes ago.

Top man! Just what I wanted :-)

Thats a touch - means I can fit my GSM and Scanner glassmounts nice and neat :-)

Many thanks mate :-)

Pleasure, glad if they were of some use!

Just be aware that on pre FL cars without the diversity aerial, there was only one corrugated rubber boot taking all the cable into the tailgate, so getting extra wires through was a tight fit! On later models there was a second rubber boot on the drivers side, (I assume your FL one will have this), so it might be worth sussing out which has the most capacity for passing cables trough before you start.

Just be prepared for some gaffing, a cut finger or two & an occasional obscenity

Have to agree that it's nice to hide glass mounts if possible

With regards to the rubber boots, Ive removed mine and cannot for the life of me get them back on over the plastic end - do you have any tips (don't want to leave them un sealed)?

I wish i could offer some tips! They were an absolute *$$t! I got the plastic out, (not without a real sweat though) in the end and managed to get them back on in the end! I tried everything from washing up liquid to silicone spray, and it was still a real swine!

Cheers, I got cracking on with it an managed to get them on before I saw this. For others out there, the plastic receiver part will come out but there are two lugs which need to be pulled inward toward the center of the plastic O shaped part in order to release it. Obviously space is severely constrained so I used one of these to pull on ONE of the lugs and pull the plastic clip out.
