I use a strap or a chain depending which one i find first, never had any problems. Used them on every car i've had and never had any issiues with clearence either. Never used a three legged one always thought they might slip and damage something lol

There all about the same to be honest. And IMO the halfords will not be worth the extra.

The best oil filter removal tools are the cap wrench type, but You need to get the right type/size for the filter, there are a few types

Like this ^ they cost about 5 quid and will save you a lot of ball ache, you should be able to undo the filter by hand but if it is tight enough to need persuasion the leg type filter wrenches WILL slip anyway.. I can't remember the size cap wrench you need off hand but I've got a filter for a 20v engine knocking about I can measure for you.

Well I have been using a Chain type for 25 years now with no problems.
