2010 Octy vRS Alloys - Layered

Featured Replies

alloys recently got damaged by dealer after they replaced rear tyres and did geometry for free.

Anyway - the rears had a fish-scale effect to a bit of them on the edge of the rim, dealer said they would fix and booked it in.

It went in today - alloys at rear all fixed, although it was literally just the face that was sprayed - the spray feels rough to touch and in the limited light i had it looked like they have not used any lacqeur.

now - when i collected it they said that the sprayer had noticed that they had been repaired many times before and to a poor quality - hence the fish-scale effect - they wont cover it again.

I explained that they were untouched, never been sprayed and that they were new with the car.

So.... has anyone else noticed this layering effect on the alloys - do you have pics - did skoda sort it out.

Thanks in Advance

prolfe (no iiiiiii)

PS - if mods wanna move it feel free, i'll still find it.

They should have stripped them properly. Saying "oh it's had a bad spray job in the past" is poor form to be honest.

Sprayers should give themselves a proper base to work from; this is like a decorator just slapping up wall paper over old wall paper and blaming the poor finish on the previous decorator.

Sounds to me like they were using the 'repaired before' line to cover for the poor job they did, BUT although you say the alloys were new with the car thats not to say that the wheel was damaged & repaired before you ever set eyes on the car. A trip to any bodyshop will probably show the amount of cars that get damaged before they've ever had a reg plate on.

Doesn't matter how they were before or how many layers of paint are on there. They damaged so must now repair the wheel to a satisfactory standard instead of just dumping a bit of paint on. This means shot blasting wheel and properly painting it which is what I have got to do with one of mine over the winter due to an interface with a broken drain.

When the wife curbed mine I could see exactly the same thing. Took them to decent refurber who explained that there was clearly 3-4 coats on there. He said that they would keep re-doing them in the factory until they had a decent finish but had failed to strip of the previously poorly done coat. Thankfully he did a proper job and they came out looking better than when i picked the car up on day 1.
