diesel consumption

Featured Replies

ok, i filled my car(fabia vrs) up last friday and have done 70 mile to date/since, my fuel guage was reading that i had used a third of a tank of diesel, filled it up there today to see how much the tank would take to one click on the pump and it came to 17 Litres more or less.

now i haven't horsed the sh**e out of the car and even if i had i would have expected slighty better economy from the car and have as i said above only done 70 miles...there is no diesel lying on the drive, no smell of diesel inside or outside of the car

anyone else experienced a problem like this? any ideas of what could be wrong?

Seems more than mine, @ 10 miles per litre pretty much, so 70 miles= 7 litres approx.

My reckoning should be more like 7 litres than 17 litres, for 70 miles.

Best check for fuel leaks somewhere.

Does the car appear to sound and run as normal?

Do you think you have to give it more throttle now, to achieve the same performance?

most of the time the car seems to be going well but theres the odd day she seems while sluggish but i thought that was just me tbh i've filled her up again so i'll see what shes like the next few days

the car sounds grand and i check in around the engine bay for signs of leaks or diesel lying on undertray

i was thinking that maybe i had a split or a small crack in a fuel line and under acceleration she was leaking through pressure or something an thats why there was no leaks when the car was at a stand still.

Did you use the exact same pump on refill ?

That is 18mpg, sure you didn't fill your expansion tank as well on the refill?

how was the 70 miles covered?

if you did 14 journeys of 5 miles each, sitting in rush hour stop/start traffic that will give you crap fuel consumption.

New Air Filter ?

Works wonders.

i did about 6-8 short journeys but all continous driving no start/stop stuff, but i do these journeys every other week and they haven't been any were near as bad as that

expansion tank afaik wasn't filled, not sure the pump attendant filled the car, anytime i've filled the expansion tank i normally get 90 miles plus before the needle even moves.

air filter change roughly 5-6000 ago as it was rippped

going to see what the crack is from refilling it, i'll go to the same station/pump an see if theres a difference altho the gauge has dropped a nick already an i,ve only don 60 mile so what ever will be will be lol

she could be for sale very soon :(

i think it was just **** diesel filled car to one click again there tonight after 85 miles an it only took 8 litres, i filled it across the border won't be doing that again lol

thetrip is reading bout 450miles or there abouts.

i never fill my expansion tank to the brim as i done this once before an i had a leaky seal an it dropped some diesel onto my da's fresh asphalt....whoopsy lol

hopefully that it sorted again anyway

Yeah the stuff around the border for €1.20ish is usually super ****e! Seems to be the same all the way from Donegal right around to Dundalk...

Glad it wasn't anything more serious!
