Should I buy a 1.6FSI?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Wonder if you could help me with a decision. We have a 2002 1.4 8v Fabia. It's not a bad little car and has pretty good fuel consumption (around 44MPG).

I like it because it's chain driven and that it's an original Skoda engine. Recently though, we have had to have the lamba sensors changed, a new battery and every so often there is a knock when I go around a round about. I have had the suspension checked and they can't see anything wrong with it. It's just strange. You can bounce it up and down and nothing, and then you can drive it at 5MPH and turn the wheel and once maybe every week it makes the knock sound.

Anyway, to get back on with the question, we have seen an Octavia 1.6FSI for sale. It's an 05 plate from a Skoda dealer with 52000 miles on the clock. They are asking £3900. The only reason I am thinking of buying it is because I'm scared of having problems with the Fabia. I have heard some negative reports about the FSI engines, so I am really unsure. Is the fuel consumption going to be worse?

Help?
