Glow plug issue

My Skoda Otavia 55 tdi elegance has starting problems namely I have to put the ignition key in and out of the the ignition barrell several times before the glow plug symbol in the dash comes on and then and only then i am able to turn the key to fully engaged and the car starts no problem . I can drive the car a few miles until the engine is heated up fully turn of the ignition take the key out put the key back in and still i have to go through the same proceedure of having to put the key in and out of the ignition barrell before the glow plugs symbol appears on the dashboard and i am able to start the car without any problems . the car runs perfectly when it starts and no warning light on the dash come on Can anyone come up with possible solutions to this annoying problem.
