Bumper/reflector damage vRS

Featured Replies

Hello, some very kind soul (read b*****d) has glanced the rear offside of my '06 vRS hatch & smashed the lower reflector and caused deeper than polishable scraping in an approx 12cm square patch above it. :-(

Just wondering whether anyone would be able to give a very rough estimate on remedying this?

ie, is it likely to be around the £200 excess threshold..?

Many thanks in advance..

I had a muppet hit the rear end passenger quarter of the bumper, all bumper damage and reflector, cost was over £400 ! Good job I didn't have to cough up that one. That was done through the insurance, but you could get it done cheaper off your own back. Hope that give you a very rough idea.

Wouldn't bother going through insurance. It will not just be the excess but increased premiums for about the next 5years.

Lovely.. Thanks for the thoughts - my thought was to avoid the insurance for the obvious reasons but I can't really afford to shell out £400 at the moment.

Might just buy the reflector & polish out as much as possible for now & save my pennies for Xmas..

Hmm.. :-/

What about "Chips away"? Never used them but maybe some one has on here?

You'll be suprised at what they can remove. I helped a family member buy a used car recently and it had clearly kissed a bollard during it's life and the scrape on the bumper was through the paint and had scraped the plastic to a point it was sharp in places. We agreed to a repair as part of the purchase price and the dealer got the local 'Chips Away' guy out who did a fantastic job, you'd never know the damage was there.

The reflector simply clips in and is about £25 from a Skoda dealer.

I reckon you'll get it done for less than £200.

Cor, I'd not even thought of Chips Away - good idea, I'll give 'em a bell tomorrow.

Thanks again for the help, I know it's no big deal but I do like to think that if I'd tw*tted someone else's pride & joy, I would have had the decency to leave my details.

Oh well..
