2.0 vrs in fabia

Hi all,

A friend of mine has been talking about getting an octavia VRS tdi 170 & that got me thinking - could my fabia vRS take that engine? The idea of 170 bhp instantly somewhat appeals lol

Surely a decent remap would be a tad cheaper?

I agree, for the time and amount of effort surely get a remap?

I think he's going on the basis of a stronger base engine to then give more headroom for said mapping ;)

People have taken the 1.9 PD upto and above 300bhp with the right components. Anything more than that in a Fabia is insane!

Fair point :)

Yeah that's right - could I bore mine out that extra 100cc or would it be altogether cheaper to just source an engine?

The 1.9tdi is one of the strongest engines around.

Anything can be done but the effort involved could be huge. For starters, are we talking PD or CR engines? Then there are two different types of PD injectors, requiring specific drivers in the ECU.

Mechanically, I think you'd look to replicate the Octy setup. Whether it'll all fit is the question.

And generally considered stronger than the 2.0.

I might consider a 2.0 conversion, although if I were thinking about increasing displacement, I might look into pushing for 2.1 litres. :) Beyond that I think is pushing the thickness of the cylinder walls too far. Will be wise to back up with a girdle. For now I am happy to push it on a stock bottom end. :)

If we're talking peak power, IMO the 2.0 16v is inherently a better design than the 1.9 8v. my armchair/shade tree opinion...

Crossflow head plus 16 valves surely must have far greater potential at the top end.

No idea whether it'd fit, but beware the flawed Siemans injectors in the PD170 (design flaw means they often fail and when they do, the engine cuts out - no PAS/MBA, etc - have a look on the Octy II forum for the 10+ page thread on it). VOSA are making Skoda replace them FOC, but ...

Not necessarily. The common rail motor doesn't tune well at all in comparison to a PD and the 2.0PD is often held up as the worst diesel engine ever made by VAG.

How so?

Do you have big pockets lol- surely it's easier to get a remap like others have said and save a lot of hassle and possible problems.

What other plans would you have for it?

How so?

My local independent say that it's much more common to have odd niggles with the 2.0PD. They seem to have more turbo failures, and there was the case of porous heads.

Wouldnt that be case of bad turbos?..............

Had to pull this back up. A sniff of some tunign potential from tdiclub.

Meh, 300 is achieveable in a 1.9
