RS Tuning (Leeds) - Experiances?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong section, but does anybody have any experiance of RS Tuning in Leeds?

In particular their own remaps.

Thanks

we've been to a RR day there before, by all accounts they are very good, I nearly went with them for a hybrid converion with my old GPS, but ended up buying a new vRS instead...

They have a good rep.

I had my previous car mapped by them. The clutch died within 2 months & the turbo blew up the year after (at 78k)

It put me off the idea of remapping for a LONG time :-/

It was enjoyable while it lasted tho

They are REVO agents. It's quite an aggressive map. Feels fast as anything but then your clutch dies, and on older cars, your turbo.

Body swerve them and get down to Shark Performance in Mansfield. Maybe not the same Whoah! factor but you'll still have a big grin on your face and your clutch and turbo will thank you for it.

I dont know them from expierience but seems to me they have good exp in heavly moded cars. I had mine done at http://www.eliteremaps.com/ and so far only great exp. Dave knows what he is doing. On top of that we seen few Skoda's coming around - I havent seen them coming back complaining.

Apparently he actually does his own maps as well.

I wouldnt go for the revo one as everybody seems to say the same thing as you about them!

Do Shark custom map each car or just stick a generic map on?

I need some custom things setting you see like fueling at tickover.

Paul at RS does his own remaps as well, or can do. I think both T.Spark and Tom. from SCN/IOC had their Ibiza hybrids mapped by him and seemed happy (although the last time I saw T.Spark's Ibiza it smoked like hell). Shark can do pretty much anything you want, but depends whether it then falls into the territory of proper custom mapping as to how much you get charged. Their standard stage 1 is £299, think fully custom is £400.

The RS ones are about £400 so thats fine.

How do they usually do for power at Shark? Are they quite conservative?

I don't want to say conservative as such cos it depends on your setup. But they're very safe, and will get whatever's possible out of your car without risk of it going bang, killing a clutch, etc.

I've got no Skoda experiences but my mate had his Megane Sport tuned to 300 BHP there

Just been doing a lot of reading and they do get very good reviews, but some people are experiancing low power outputs. One guy had 155 BHP which is shockingly low. There could have been a problem with the car though I guess.

Dont get me wrong I know dynos are always a bit of a lottery, but I'd be devastated if I wasnt coming out with 170 on a BLT given they are about 150 standard.

The only person I know of off the top of my head who had a low result from a Shark map was Ant-vrs, and it turned out his MAF was on the way out when it was dynoed, so it was an underlying problem with the car rather than the map. He bought a new one from GSF and it was good as new, but I don't know whether he's had it dynoed again since then to see what it's really making.

he's a brilliant mapper, ive had a few experiences with him, i expect the low power out puts are the ones done remotely by him, the ones he does on site you cant fault. Me and a mate built a 172 on ITB's on oem managment. now many 'tuners' said it couldnt be done, Paul managed to map it and it ran brilliantly.

I had mine done on site too & it smoked a lot. I complained about the smoke on test and he pegged it back a bit. When the turbo blew it wasn't economical to repair, ended up being auctioned as a non runner for peanuts.

Mayb I was unlucky...

I'd certainly never go back :-(

Had mine custom mapped by Paul as RS over 50k miles ago, still pulls strong and on original turbo and clutch and I'm currently at 115k

Was mapped to 180bhp ish and 300ft/lb torque.

Would recommend to anybody, he tried previous vrs maps on mine then tweaked them to suit my car, then took it for a test drive.

Nice guys and good service.

The thing about remaps is that if you buy a generic map then the car makes whatever the car makes and unless you pay £60 for before and after rolling road runs you'll never know what the extra is.

If you get a custom map then you get a bit more optimisation and a bit more matching to your driving style but the car still makes whatever the car makes.

I think Shark claim 165bhp minimum and 275lbft for their remap but you probably can prove all those bhp are there, unlike the guy above claiming 180bhp, which is probably actually 170bhp, or maybe less.

I think Shark's remaps are conservative, but I'd rather have smooth and reliable over something that's likely to hand-grenade itself in a few weeks.

My Superb MK2 PD140 DPF has a Shark remap on it, been on now for 18 months with no problems to report.

Probably is about 170 bhp, just stating what was on the print out given, which was 179.6 bhp and 302 ft/lb.

I would definatley use him again

I have a MkII Octavia the turbo does need replacing and I’m saving up for one but do you reckon a tune up for these guys will ruin an new one if I tune with them after the turbo is fitted? Ps my car has about 380,000 miles on the clock. (I know it was an old taxi)

cheers.
