power steering fluid leaking

Featured Replies

hi i have a octavia 1.9 tdi elegance asv 110 bhp and the power steering fluid goes down about every three weeks where should i look first? steering is fine once topped up with no noise etc? many thanks.

I would check under the car :giggle:

Try removing the under engine tray and have a look at the steering rack / gators at each end.

How much are you having to top it up by? One would imagine it should be quite easy to see where the fluid is leaking out.

hello. i put about 200ml every three weeks when it starts making a noise.

Use to have the same problemo. Open the bonnet, on the left part of the engine, exactly in front of the AC Compresor and check the sensor conected there to a tube. Mine was leaking by the O ring on the sensor.

I had same problem. Worked out it was the seals in the steering rack that were goosed and my gator had filled with fluid, so I could not see leak. It ended up the size of a watermelon. I replaced steering rack.

Hi all,

... thought I would revive an old post for my first post :)

Turbo_Boss, I think I have the exact same problem as you had on my 1998 Octavia atm..

Can I therefore ask you how you fixed your leak? (New O-ring, new sensor or..?)

Kind regards,

Peter

as above iv had a leak on the sensor banjo, there are 2 copper washers on there that could need replacing.

No, but if you look at the inner ends of the track rods and still can't find the gaiters, then you are beyond help!
