2.0 FSI jerks when letting off or barely pressing gas pedal

Featured Replies

HI! I have this very annoying problem in my car that only seems to get worse.

In any gear (1-5), when I let off the gas pedal quickly (don't feather it / slowly let off), the car kind of "bucks" back and forth very noticeably. It's most aggressive in 1st gear and least (but still noticeable) in 5th gear. At the same time, if I barely press on the gas pedal (as in stop and go traffic) I get a similar reaction. Same thing happens after a gear change (I know how to change gears so don't give me that "you have to learn how to change gears properly"). The weird thing is that sometimes this problem doesn't occur at all sometimes a little and sometimes like today it was so annoying i would have rather taken the bus than drive home.

A little thing that I noticed today was that even when not in gear and clutch depressed the car jerks a bit when you lift the rpms from idle to 1100rpm . Any help or ideas!

Thanks again guys!

I would first look at the engine mounts, when these get older they become loose which then lets the whole engine and drive-train flap around under torque. If as you say blipping the throttle produces the problem then it is even more likely to be engine mounts rather than something else. Good news is they are cheap, easy to fix and no lasting damage.

Ok I will check these first!

Engine mounts were checked and they claimed at the service there is no problems with them. What i also have noticed is that the revcounter jerks when when the car jerks.

Maf sensor?

My vRS does the same, quite annoying really. Local dealer says there is no play in the engine/gearbox mounts. Getting the torque/dog bone mount changed next week. Will let you know if it fixes the issue.

Could be loads of things... Check the amount Of rock in the mounts by putting it in say second and rocking the car back and forth looking at the engine (engine off and Bonnet open obviously!)

Sounds electrical given the rev counter goes - get Vcds check on it to see what it flags up. Might be just a sime thing like loose battery terminal!

sorry to revive an old thread but did you get to the bottom of this?

Hello guys.

I'm also interested in this.
My A6 C6 2.0 TFSI also produce this problem, but mostly noticable in gear 1-2, and maybe 3rd. It's really annoying, when I'm in traffic, going let's say 10km/h in 1st gear, I let off the gas and the car is literally roughly "bucks" back and forth.

I would appreciate any suggestions, tips.

PS.:
- PCV valve got replaced
- Valves, and flaps got cleaned in the intake manifold

ive changed so much more than that and still the same issue.

Long shot is that it is the accelerator pedal position sensor in the "drive by wire" accelerator pedal. A proper diagnostics check with VCSD should find or eliminate this as a cause.

I'll post a full log of VCDS check when I get home tomorrow.

does it also do it if say youre trying to drive slow in a car park going over poor surfaces? if i try drive in 1st/2nd slow speed with my foot on the accelerator and the road is bad, my car will jerk all over then too, even if my foot is in the same position, never happens with foot off the accelerator. my exhaust also pops every time i let off and rpm needle jerks around.
