Can you have too much black?

Featured Replies

I put these on at the weekend. It's amazing how it transforms the look of the car. It now looks like a taxi & rather dowdy I think.

As for the tyres, there isn't much, if any loss in feel and performance. They are a bit floaty at the limit at higher speeds on a dry road, but it's a progressive loss of traction and fairly controlable. Also, a few laps of a roundabout to find the limit of the tyres resulted in me feeling a bit sick, so they'll do I reckon.

But still, it's all a bit black isn't it?

I think you should spray the wheels a funky green or maybe even orange Andrew! :giggle:

Just what I need so I can get mine refurbed...

It's a long way between Scarborough and Liverpool if you're after a loan for a week or two!

I had thought of that, but come resale time I might limit my customer base. :D

No problem - leave the wheels black and spray the car orange or green B)

Now there's a thought.... I wonder if the wife would go for that one?

You're not going to suggest a different colour for the wheels? Gold for example.

Get some genuine skoda wheel trims in 16"

Like these and enjoy the sleeper look ;)

I've got a feeling that if I stick with too much black, it can only end one way....

Gold wheels only look right on black cars, I'm surprised Subaru haven't realised that yet :)

I'd considered that too, but wasn't too sure I like being too anonymous. It's worth having a look on ebay though.

Have you written to Subaru to inform them of this? A couple of photos to prove the point might help your case.

On the subject of Subaru's, i had steelies on mine last winter but sprayed the outer rim flanges silver to help make the wheels stand out. Didn't look quite as good as the alloys, but gave it a sleeper kind of look.

Are they 16" steels?

I've been looking for some, but can't seem to get any on ebay!

Never too much black. Now you need to do the grille surround black, too!

I was lucky to find these on ebay in the summer when people weren't thinking about winter. It was still a bit of a battle though, as nearly every set went for silly money. I was patient, set myself a limit and eventually got these. They're not perfect, but do the job.

It's on my list, but don't have the spare cash for the paint at the moment. Mind you, the only thing letting me know the car is on the drive at night is the glint from the grille. if that's black, I won't be able to see it at all. :D

I was wondering about spraying mine - similar look to yours but 15" steels! I have low profile tyres too - 195/60 so it sits quite low (stock suspension). The car roof is only up to just below my shoulder and i am 5'8!

The thing is with steels, is whether its worth the effort! The alloys look amazing when they are on, but even if you spray steel wheels they wont ever look as good as a nice set of alloys!

Oh, I don't know. I've always been a fan of steel wheels and quite like the banded look. I know I'm probably on my own on this one, but in a previous thread I mentioned my like of steels and have been looking for some 17" versions for a while now.

If all else fails, you could go for this look...

You can get some on ebay,

I think it does depend on preference as you say  I think my steels have too lesser amount of holes in them - e.g. they look better with lots of holes. I will have to put some pictures up! I should just put some wheel trims on but I am too much of a cheap skate for that! :smirk:

Until I started looking I wasn't aware of how the designs of steels can differ and how they can change the look you're going for.

I've been looking, but 90% I've seen aren't that nice. These are pretty non offensive though.

I haven't fitted my winters yet but I'm not sure whether to go for wheel trims or not. TBH I didn't even realise that Skoda 16" wheel trims were available!

I think I may just run with the naked steel look though :giggle:
