Bent Handbrake lever > Cable bracket

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

When I was fitting my Kufatec wiring loom for my S3 Recaro's recently I had a load of interior trim removed from the car and was greeted with this:

So, is the bracket bent, or is it just not seated correctly?! It either looks like it should be a more straight shape, or seated to the left to form a 'c' shape around the nut??

I noticed today when parked on the R.H.S. of a road facing downhill that the O/S rear brake was creaking with the handbrake on - obviously because the cable doesn't have enough tension in it on that side of the car. I've had a search on here but don't know what the technical name of this bracket would be, so can't find any reference to it on here. Can anyone point me in the right direction of the name, or even better a part number if it needs to be replaced? I wonder if anyone has ever heard/read of this happening before?

I did replace the rear discs and pads myself earlier in the year, and it did occur to me that when the piston was wound back in, and the tension wasn't taken up on the cable whether the bracket had slipped out of place??? Does this sound likely?

Oh, and a pic of the recaro's hehe

That bar is there to balance the tension in the 2 cables.

It could be that the left one has a stretched cable, or the right one has seized.

Seats look awesome by the way! IMO they look better in a non-vrs a they match the doorcards and carpet etc.

doesn't look right to me - someone will be along soon with a part number

The bar is fine, it's supposed to be that shape (Looks like a boomerang), and doesn't need replacing. Something else is making it go lop-sided.

aah that's half of the mystery solved then! Like I say I wonder whether it's slipped when winding the piston back in, and when taking the tension up on the ratchet type system it has been seated in that position ever since??

Thanks for the replies btw! And the seats are so nice! Never had heated seats before but they're amazing in the cold mornings!

Your seats...

I can actually direct fit those due to the heating elements. Did they set you back a huge amount?

They have wiring for the electric adjustment too, not sure whether the L+K has that in the loom? All that part of it though is a fused +ve from under the steering column. And yes, they cost me a considerable amount! But i ran into some unexpected cash my way so thought why not?!!! They're a perfect combo of comfort and support - so comfy on long journeys.

Steady on now, we're not that well-equipped in the L&K camp- we're still at the bottom of the food chain of the VAG ladder. :D

I'll be seriously looking into a pair at the very least. Anyone know if the rear seats are worth bothering with? Quite like my 3-headrest setup.

Although a blatant thread-hijack :giggle: here's a pic of the back seats - note they hadn't been cleaned/conditioned in this pic - nor had the fronts in the above pic come to think of it! I was quite used to the three headrest look lol, but when i actually thought about how many times a year i have a fifth passenger wasn't too fussed!

You'll do well to find an immaculate set too - mine came out of a car that covered 17k before i got them B)

It's technically not possible to hijack your own thread, so we're sorted. Unless you're calling me the jacker, in which case I'm offended and would be assuaged if I was offered a nice S3 interior. :D

They do look lovely, is there an armrest? I very rarely carry a 5th passenger... and if I need to, the shortest person is going in the boot. :giggle:

Any amount of thread hijacking couldn't amount to the value of an S3 interior lol! There is an armrest in some s3's but i'm not sure if it's a direct fit in the octy like the seats...

The rear seat does still take three passengers, so the shortest can still fit in the middle, it's just there isn't a headrest for them! I did have to buy a standard lap belt from a Golf as my standard octy seats had the 3 point belt in the middle. Wasn't sure on the MOT side of things if it didn't have the fifth seatbelt in place...?

Get hunting for a nice set! seem to be a few crop up on the audi-sport forum fairly often ;)

Or that one or both have been replaced, and the muppet who did it didn't adjust the lengths of the cables relative to each other properly.
