Fabia 1.2 Steering Problems

Featured Replies

I have a Fabia 1.2 2007 which started having issues with the steering as follows:

- First symptom was it was heavy to start turning, but once turning was fine.

- Gradually got worse so that it was getting heavy to turn all the time.

From searching it seemed that it was most likely a sensor failure and I was planning to get this replaced.

I then checked the PAS reservoir and it was empty. On my Fabia the green filler cap is down low at the front of the engine bay, just ahead of the battery, and is accessible without removing the battery. When looking down at the rear of the engine bay you can see a leak from the rubber gator around the steering links.

I have filled the reservoir with a 'stop leak' type PAS fluid. I then did a few lock to lock turns and topped up the reservoir. Steering now good but time will tell if the leak is still there or not.

I will monitor the level and see how it goes. Will update this post on the outcome.

Hope this posting helps someone else with a similar issue.

sounds like your rack is leaking

i had the same problem and also tried stop leak

which did not work and ended up having to change the rack
