Yamaha R1

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Anyone on here into motorbikes?

I took in a Yamaha R1 in part exchange against a Discovery I had and I have no idea what to do with it, I can't even ride it. I managed to make it move but not very well, as shown here.

It's a V reg done about 20,000 kilometers, and it's blue. Apparently they are very fast.

Anyone want to give it a home? I've been told it's worth £2,000? Is that realistic, if not make me an offer please.

Yam R1's are seriously quick! I went to the isle of man TT this year and there was a guy that had turbo'd and nos'd his r1!!! Was mental!

Best place to sell it will be autotrader in the bike section or on a Yamaha forum.

You'll also be able to see what similar ones are selling for

any pics? Now is not the time to sell as the bike market is flat on it's arse, you'd get a better price March/April

got any pics/full spec? my old man is after a R1

It's a 1999 Yamaha YZF 1000R R1, actually done 21,000KM. 3 previous owners, has a single seat and a set seat included, also got an upgraded exhaust. It's taxed and MOT'd until 2012, I think about March time. Fair bit of history with it.

I really don't know what else to say, the tyres look good and I had someone who knows about bikes ride it and he said it felt fine and that there was no corrosion anywhere.

Is there anything to look for?

It's just of JCT-9 on the M25 if you want to come and look at it, it looks fine apart from a few little marks on the body work.

I doubt the bike is even worth that, especially with 3 owners and 20000km - km would also suggest this was an imported bike. Sorry but I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole!

Any idea what it should make? £1500?

There are loads on eBay ranging up to £5k ish.

I thought most bikes made outside of the UK had KPH speedos, uh-oh, maybe I thought wrong.

It's an import, will still make good money though and 20k is low for the year 12500 miles just over 1k a year

Best bet would be eBay mate, if it's genuinely mint I'd put it up for a classified ad of £2.5k lower if you want rid quickly.

Thanks for the advice. It isn't mint, there are 2 scuff on the near side. I presume someone dropped it at one stage or fell off it?

Hopefully it'll go quickly.

Thanks again.

Yes, got £1800 for it. Which may have been towards the low end of what it may have made eventually.

A chap heard me talking about it in a pub, told me he'd give me £1800 for it, gave him my number and sure enough he turned up Saturday morning and rode it away.

Thanks for your advice guys!
