Flooded ventilation + wet carpets

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone

I recently got into my car (06 Fabia) and when turning on the ventilation to clear the fogged up windscreen I found it bubbling with water, also the front and rear carpets were soaking wet. The AA told me that my heater matrix had done a Burton and they recovered my car to my local garage. The garage found after removing the dashboard etc that the heater matrix was fine and the problem was caused by rain water flooding the ventilation system due to clogged up drainage holes. Thankfully they have removed most of the water and unclogged the system. The problem I have now is that I need to dry the carpet and underlay. I would like to remove the carpet and underlay to dry off for a week or so whilst any remaining water in the car comes out. Does anyone know how to remove the carpets after taking the seats out please? and how tricky is it to do?

Many Thanks

It's usually a case of removing the seats, the centre console and possibly the side trims if you can't slide the carpet from between them. One thing to bear in mind is to be careful around the airbag ECU, which you'll find centrally mounted on the floor behind the console, you'll be able to identify it it by its yellow electrical connectors.
