Astra Mk5 ABS ECU 1.8 - traction control light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm simply posting this as a point of reference for anybody who found them selves in a similar predicament to me recently and also some handy info about a great company, as a Google search revealed nothing and nor did searching various other forums.

Anyway, my girlfriend has a 2006 Astra 1.8 SRI. Recently the traction control light came on. The local Vauxhall dealer diagnosed the problem as a pressure sensor fault within the ABS ECU and quoted....wait for it....£1750 to replace it!

You can imagine my reaction. I was pointed in the direction of a company called BBA-Remen based in Rochester Kent (http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx)

I phoned them up and spoke to a very helpful chap who basically said that it sounded like something they could fix, or if not exchange it for a reconditioned unit. BBA essentially don't have a proper workshop to take your car so I had to get the ECU off. The car went back to the dealer who removed the ECU. It was then posted to BBA who fixed it and returned it to the dealer to re-fit. It is now back on the car and no light on the dash! The car was off the road for about a week in total (no ABS ECU = no brakes!!)

BBA charged £175 inc postage and the dealer charged £115 to remove and refit + a small quantity of brake fluid. So a £1500 cheaper option over a dealer and a lifetime guarantee on the work BBA did!

Pretty sure BBA fix/recondition all sorts of electrical parts for all sorts of cars.

Worth bearing in mind.
