Where are the lambda probes?

Featured Replies

Had a good experience this week, when the temperature guage suddenly went down to nothing (and on the motorway - not good for the nerves), I checked under the bonnet to see that there was still water in the expansion tank (yes there was) and the heater was still working (yes it was) so I assumed it to be a bad sensor or loose wire and continued driving, albeit a little more gently than usual. I took it to my local Skoda shop and my man wiggled the wire to the sensor, and hey presto the needle went back up to exactly 90 as normal!!!! So a good end to a worrying morning.

Now, thinking along parallel lines, it occurred to me that if I could find the lambda probes on my wagon I might be able to wiggle the wires and make the engine light go off on the dash. Sounds logical, I admit. But the question is, where are the probes? I would be so pleased if a knowledgeable techie could tell me where to look so I can go a-wiggling. My engine is the 1.6 102bhp petrol. And if Mr Haynes is reading this, hurry up with the manual!

Thanks in advance folks.

The lambda sensor checks the exhaust emissions...not sure exactly where it is, but the exhaust manifold might be a good place to start, and then follow along from there... :)

Thanks Rob, I will look tomorrow when it's light! For some reason I though there might be more than one probe.
