Probably the 15th time she had claimed for the same car

On the other side of things I get phone calls regarding my car for sale and I just don't believe the offers I get, part exchange for a citroën saxo plus 500 quid being my favourite!

You are certainly right about the vrs being a fun economical option you will love, it but if you like to drive I think you need to have a bit of money set aside for sorting the brakes out as the standard ones aren't up to the job!

Cheap to do though

I've yet to see any data that shows the 312mm brakes having any benefit apart from fade resistance after extreme (track) use because both systems trigger the ABS when the limit of grip is reached making the extra brake surface pointless.

And the fade resistance issue on the 288's can be overcome by changing pads for track-day use.

That said, I'm running 312mm/256mm on the Fabia because it was a cheap mod when I needed new brake discs and pads anyway.

I would tend to agree with this. I think it is down to personal choice, if you are fully battering it on the track weekly, then I think a brake upgrade would be wise, Bedford at the weekend in the cold weather some cars with seemingly good pads and discs were overheating them (although it does have a hard braking zone)

Aside from that, for normal road use if the standard brakes feel ok to you then there is no need for them. I only really upgraded to the 312`s because they feel a bit sharper to "bite" initially and they are as wja96 says cheap to do if you need discs and pads anyway, the rears were done purely for looks. I`v still got my eye out for some 4/6/8 pots, purely for looks. B)

i car can be cat d if there is a minor scratch then theres cat c witch requires a vic test the cat b breaker only the car was only classed cat d because of they value the parts for repair at silly money i.e the headlight from a dealer ship is ridiculous money so they cat d theslightest things but the car is perfect its a shame its a cat d but well worth the savings

Good on you, Just learn to quote and we all be onto a winner.

A Cat D is still effectively a total write-off though - a small scratch would not cause a car to be written off
