Octavia 1.8 TSI remap

Featured Replies

Hi all,

bit new to this so bear with me..

I have recently had a 60 plate 1.8 octavia remapped. The company that remapped it reckon they managed to get another 60 bhp on it!! bringing it to around 220 bhp. The peak power can really be felt at around 4200rpm and by god it goes when you hit that mark!

most topics I've read suggest that most are opting for the CR diesel engines so not a great deal of 1.8 owners out there. Just wondering if anyone else has had a 1.8 tsi remapped and if so what power/efficiency improvements have there cars gained? cheers

OK, they claim to have added 60bhp taking things to 220bhp.

So that would indicate that the standard on your car was 160bhp.

This is an increase of nearly 40%.

I'm not going to say this was impossible. However the 2.0 TFSI/TSI engines are well known as some of the best "mappable" engines out there.

On both of these you would expect a Stage 1 remap to take you from the 200bhp standard to the 240bhp - 250bhp.

This is a much more realistic 20% - 25% increase.

What proof did they give you of the 37.5% increase they are claiming?

Can I ask which company did your remap?. I have the 1.8 TSI also and am interested in a remap, but was lead to believe that the ecu had to be removed to remap, as it is not possible to remap via the obd port.

These thoughts are similar to the ones I have had, a general rule of thumb I have always worked off is 100bhp per litre. So obviously based on this I would have presumed that a remap would take it to around 200bhp mark. As for proof/paperwork, I haven't received any as it was a company decision to get the fleet cars remapped which I didn't hesitate to volunteer for! So can only go off what has been relayed from the powers above me.

As it was a company decision I dont know who it was that remapped it. However, I was told that they had great difficulty remapping my car and my bosses Audi A6 because of what you said about it not being possible through the obd port. I was told that the adaptor to upload the software was around £25,000!!! Luckily a representative from bosch, I think, had an adaptor so when the rep was in the area we managed to sweet talk a 'demonstration' of how to remap!

The 220bhp was what Revo were claiming on their website for the 1.8TSi remap. They seem to have lost all the graphs and total bhp figures off their website at the mo but are saying +60bhp for the 1.8TFSi. No idea if the numbers are accurate but mine does go like stink.

Mine (10 reg) was an ecu out job for the remap, I believe due to the security on the chip meaning the unit has to be pu ton the bench and physically opened up.

My 1.8Tsi was on 204HP with Shark stage1 and 243HP/300lb/ft stage2 Revo map on 95RON or 248HP on 100RON.

You really need to get your car on a rolling road. I wouldn't take anyone's word without a dyno print out.

Mine has been remapped by Shark. Ben quoted me +40 hp and +65 lb/ft so 200hp and 250 lb/ft in total. I saw revo's quoted figures and decided they were too high. I didn't want to kill my clutch and other bits so went with the Shark map. Totally happy with it.

254bhp on my 2011 2.0TSI vRS, Shark stage 1 (RR'd there aswell) running 99 RON. Thats a 27% increase on stock and pretty impressive.

They are claiming a 37.5% increase which is very optimistic.

What I would say is though, the incease in torque is where it gets really interesting. 325lb from 207lb! The car is transformed and so easy to drive.

Clutch is safe as it can handle 250HP+ easy, but going for more i.e stage2 you need other changes, intercooler, cold air intake, decat/sport exhaust, different map etc.

Stage1 from Shark was superb, also stage2 from Revo with all changes is great too.
