Auxilary Drive Belt

Featured Replies

I would like to know how difficult it is to change the Aux. drive belt on the 1.4tsi

Has anyone had this carried out while the car is on the road, or is it a garage job.

I am asking this as next year I am contemplating a long European journey and will be carrying

a spare belt with me and would like to be prepared.

Hello - anyone there.

The fact that no one replied is probably a sign they hardly ever break! Auxiliary belts usually last at least 100k in my experience.

I've never changed one on a 1.4 TSi but have on quite a few other engines. They're usually do able at the roadside if you have tools with you. The hardest part is sometimes remembering the route round the pulleys once you have taken the old belt off. Take a pic on a phone before you remove the old one.

If you're worried about the belt why not just change it before you go? That will have the advantage of there being virtually zero chance of it failing while you're away, and if it does you will at least have previous experience of changing one!

As above , they usually break or come of, due to other causes ie pully failure or siezier of a componant in which case carrying a spare won't help.

Personaly i wouldn't worry about it but get it checked before you start your journey if you are really worried.

If you're worried about the belt why not just change it before you go?

+1

If you have some form of European cover on AA / RAC membership, then it won't be your problem? Bring a few expendables and hard to find spares and let the emergency assistance fit them in the unlikely event of a breakdown.

Just a thought.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

But I was really after some guide/indication of how difficult it is to fit a new belt on the roadside/garage.
