X Reg Fabia Classic - Sony MEX-BT3600U Harness Adapter

Featured Replies

I want to fit my Sony MEX-BT3600U stereo into my X (2001) Reg Fabia Classic. It currently has the original stereo in it, and obviously the wirings don't match, so looking for an adapter. I know nothing about the wiring, what each one's name is whatever, so please explain anything in simple terms for me :p

Or just direct me straight to the adapter I need (preferably cheap). I'm also aware the 2 stereos are different sizes, the Sony being a single DIN, and the Skoda one being a completely different size to anything I have seen before (I only know of single and double DIN, this is somewhere in between) so will need a fascia adapter or something too I assume (although not a priority, I can leave with having a bit of a whole in the dash until I get round to it).

Oh and also I think I need a cage thing to screw the Sony into, as the Skoda one just kind of sits in there with no cage. Do I need a specific one, or will any cage do? Again, if someone can provide a link or 2 that would be great.

Hope this all makes sense, thanks for any help.

Edit: here are the tech specs for the Sony stereo, if that helps: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/ica-in-car-usb-and-made-for-ipod/mex-bt3600u/tab/technicalspecs#pageType=TechnicalSpecs

Stereo should have come with cage when purchased.

Wiring matches perfectly, just swap the red and yellow wires around on the stereo's loom. Most stereos offer an easy way to do this, such as bullet connectors, so it's simply a case of pulling appart and pushing together.

Otherwise you would need an aerial amplifier adapter which connects between the stereo and aerial, and a blue wire which connects to the blue wire on the stereo itself.

You can get the small piece of trim that covers the bit at the top from a Skoda dealer for a couple of quid. Just clips on. That's all you need trim/fascia-wise.

All of that

It did indeed come with a cage when I bought it, but it was around 2-3 years ago, and this is my third car in that time. In the previous car, I fit it into the existing cage. The car before that - I can't even remember. So god knows where the original cage is now. So, if you could direct me to a cheap one that would fit that would be great.

As for the wiring, well I was absolutely certain it didn't fit. For some reason there were 2 adapters in my old car (one I think being the one that came with the stereo, the other to connect from the old cars connection to the stereo adapter). I'm sure looked at both adapters before and came to the conclusion neither of them would fit, but checking just now, the one connected to the stereo does indeed fit *facepalm*

The adapter also has the bullet connectors, so switching the red/yellow is simple enough. And I do have a lone blue wire with a bullet on the end. What exactly is it for/what does it need to connect to? The aerial amplifier? (which I do indeed need by the looks of it).

Again thanks for your help.

Looks like it should do the job. Cheers!

I have found it to be a bit of a squeeze getting the radio back in with the extra wire adapter from the stereo, but a bit of careful manoeuvring and it just about gets in there. Hopefully won't be a problem when I get the cage in there too.

I just thought I'd applaud anewman for being so helpful on this topic!
